Applications, audits and annexations IVFD topics

From our weekly issue dated November 18, 2009

Items that the Illinois Valley Fire District (IVFD) Board of Directors addressed during its Thursday, Nov. 12 board meeting at district headquarters on Caves Hwy. included:

  • Heard an update from Deputy Chief Jeff Gavlik regarding recent recruitment efforts. Gavlik said that IVFD has received six applications for firefighting recruits and two additional support applications. The district is in the process of conducting background checks on the applicants, Gavlik said, and added that he hopes to get the recruits into training within the next two months.
  • Approved the annexation of several properties into the district. Those properties are located at 116 Crooks Creek Rd., 1660 Thompson Creek Rd. and 15 Beebe Dr. Also annexed was a larger piece of property located on Thompson Creek Rd. and owned by the Illinois Valley Soil and Water Conservation District.
  • Received a report from Medford-based certified public accountant Richard Brewer regarding his audit of the district’s finances.

Brewer praised IVFD’s use of internal controls, and gave the district a “clean bill of health” for its fiscal management practices.

“The overview is positive in almost every way,” Brewster said.

IVFD’s next board meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 10.
