Guy Haskett

Guy Haskett, 65, of Cave Junction, died Monday, Nov. 9, 2009 at his home.

No services are planned. Illinois Valley Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Haskett was born Sept. 29, 1944 at Mercy Hospital in Sacramento to Guy & Vina Haskett. Soon after, he moved with his family to Phoenix, Ariz. In high school he met and later married Patty Ness. They were parents to twins, Steven & Janice, followed by Brian, Shannon, Joshua, and Charles. He worked as an electric motor repairman and salesman for many years. In 1978 the family moved to Oregon, which he called God’s Country. After they divorced, Mr. Haskett made many friends on the Internet, where he met Susan, whom he married seven months later.

He enjoyed fishing and going to the ocean.

Survivors include his wife, Susan Haskett, of Cave Junction; two sisters, Dora, of Arizona, and Charlotte, of Washington; and six children, Steven, Janice, Brian, Shannon, Joshua, and Charles; a niece, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

‘Dick’ Miller

Richard Vernon “Dick” Miller, 70, of O’Brien, died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009 at his home.

A funeral service will begin at 10 a.m., Friday, Nov. 20, 2009 at Community Bible Church in Cave Junction with Pastor Dave Gordon and Pastor Derick Smith officiating.

Memorial donations may be made to the Waldport Assembly of God Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 367, Waldport OR 97394.

Mr. Miller was born Nov. 9, 1939 in Los Angeles and raised in Sierra City, Calif. From September 1958 to May 7, 1966 he served in the U.S. Coast Guard in Alameda, Calif. as a training officer. He lived in Auburn, Calif. and worked as a volunteer at the Rock Creek Fire Dept. For most of his life Mr. Miller worked as a heavy equipment operator. He was also a supervisor for the Placer County Roads Dept.

On July 3, 1983 in Auburn he married Charlotte Ann Tate. They moved from Foresthill, Calif. to Yachats, Ore. in 2000; and in 2006 they moved to O’Brien. Currently he was a Fire Prevention Officer for Illinois Valley Fire District.

He was a member of the Waldport Assembly of God for more than eight years in Waldport, and together with his wife he was a member of the Lions Club in Yachats. Currently he was still working on the Waldport Assembly of God Church Building.

His hobbies included drawing up maps for fire hydrant locations and residential mapping for fire planning. He was also an amateur World War II historian.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Ann Miller, of O’Brien; two sons, Tim Johnson and Mark Johnson, both of Roseville, Calif.; a daughter, Jeanie Wood, of Sacramento; a sister, Laural Miller, of Citrus Heights, Calif. and five grandchildren.
