Homecoming events set
From our weekly issue dated October 28, 2009
This week marks homecoming at Illinois Valley High School with a series of events to commemorate the occasion.
A powder puff football game is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 28 at 6 p.m. at the IVHS football field.
The homecoming parade is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30. The cheerleaders and football players will walk in the parade, and each class will have a float. This year’s shortened parade route will begin at IVHS, proceed west on River Street to Evergreen Elementary School; back along River to Kerby Street; left on Lister Street and across Redwood Hwy. to Lorna Byrne Middle School; left on Junction Avenue and right on River Street, to return to the high school.
Riding in and along the floats will be members of the homecoming court, IVHS football team and cheerleading squad. Each class will have its own float, and the marching band will show off its new uniforms.
The school’s equestrian team may also make an appearance, for the first time in several years.
IVHS will host the Henley Hornets for the homecoming football game. It is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m.
