HOMECOMING HAPPENINGS - Illinois Valley High School will celebrate Homecoming Week with various events, including the annual Powder Puff football game on Wednesday night, Oct. 28 at 6 p.m. on the football field. The Homecoming Parade, featuring the IVHS band in new uniforms, will be held on Friday, Oct. 30 beginning at 1 p.m. The cheerleaders and football players will walk in the parade, and each class will have a float. The equestrian team will ride their horses in the parade. This year’s shortened parade route will begin at IVHS, proceed west on River Street to Evergreen Elementary School; back along River to Kerby Street; left on Lister Street and across Redwood Hwy. to Lorna Byrne Middle School; left on Junction Avenue and right on River Street, to return to the high school. The homecoming football game will be played against the Henley Hornets at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30.

FLEE FLU - Josephine County Public Health Dept. is offering H1N1 influenza vaccinations on Thursday, Oct. 29 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Josephine County Bldg. in Downtown Cave Junction. Production of the Seasonal Flu vaccine has been delayed and is not available during this clinic. Phone 474-5337 for more flu information.

ACORN OCCASION - Abundant, easily stored and packed with nutrition, acorns have been an important food source for many cultures. Join the Spiral Living Center and Lomakatsi Restoration Project and others for an Acorn Festival on Saturday, Nov. 7 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Selma Community Education Center. Displays, demonstrations and a field trip to highlight traditional people’s care for oak groves will be part of the festival. Phone Suzanne Vautier at 592-3939.

H1N1 Q&A - What is it? How is it transmitted? What are the symptoms? What is the community concern? How is this different from other flu? Answers will be available during a Q&A session with Dr. Daniel Selinger on Monday, Nov. 9 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the OHMS Community Health Education Center, 128 S.W. “I” St. in Grants Pass. NOTEPAD - Illinois Valley High School has raffle tickets to raise funds for student attendance initiatives. Prizes are 1/2 steer or 1/2 hog. Tickets are available at the IVHS office. The drawing will be on Friday, Oct. 30 ... A “Halloween Hoedown,” sponsored by Chetco Grange #765, will be held on Saturday, Oct. 31, at the Grange Community Center, Hwy. 101 & Zimmerman Lane in Harbor. The event will feature the District 5 Oregon Old Time Fiddlers and a jam session of area musicians. The program will run from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is free to all. For additional information phone 469-7120 ... Turkey Bingo will return to the Josephine County Bldg. in Cave Junction on Saturday, Nov. 14. The event will include 14 games plus one “blackout” game for which the grand prize is a complete turkey dinner. And there will be a pie auction, 50/50 drawing and refreshments.
