An early morning fire on Monday, Oct. 19 drove an Illinois Valley family from their home and resulted in the total loss of the structure, contents and one vehicle.

In a long-anticipated move, the Josephine County Board of Commissioners approved a $1,500 economic development grant to Illinois Valley Chamber of Commerce for a new “Welcome” sign.

Fire season ended on Wednesday, Oct. 14, on land protected by the Oregon Dept. of Forestry (ODF) Southwest Oregon District. The season began June 19 and lasted 117 days.

The Josephine County Public Health Dept. will hold an H1N1 flu clinic at the County Building in Cave Junction from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 29.

On Thursday, Oct. 22, Evergreen Elementary School in Cave Junction and the Illinois Valley branch of the Boys & Girls Club are hosting “Lights on After School.” It is intended to highlight the new 21st Century learning Grant program.

If the property tax bills are paid in full by the due date, there is a 3 percent discount. To receive a discount, payments must be postmarked on or before Monday, Nov. 16, 2009.
