  • Monday, Sept. 14
    • From Kerby Avenue came a call from a man who said that he just found a boy, 12, in his residence, wearing the complainant’s watch. The man said he believes that the youth has been involved in three other burglaries at his home in which handguns were stolen. He let him go, but knows where he lives.
  • Tuesday, Sept. 15
    • For some reason at 11:26 a.m. it was reported that in the 27000 block of Hwy. 199, someone came to retrieve a car that was towed from private property.
    • A home invasion report was logged at 9:43 p.m. from Mesa Verde Drive by a man who said that someone walked in the front door and stole his wallet, keys, a coffee can filled with change and a badge. Deputies were unable to locate a suspect.
  • Wednesday, Sept. 16
    • With a reported BAC of .14, Marie Elaine Lockwood, 49, was cited on a DUII charge at 9:49 p.m. in the 32000 block of Hwy. 199. Lockwood also was cited for failure to drive on her lane and warned for speeding. She was given a courtesy ride to a bar. Her vehicle was towed.
    • In Downtown Cave Junction, Verl Verdel Boatman, 50, was charged with a restraining order violation, resisting arrest and criminal trespass. He was taken to Josephine County Jail in Grants Pass. Gregory Wayne Sampley, 57, was cited and released for criminal trespass at the same location, the 300 block of Hwy. 199.
  • Friday, Sept. 18
    • Phillip Michael Edward Shaw, 50, was cited at Hwy. 199 and Deer Creek Road on a charge of driving while suspended (DWS). He also was warned for failure to maintain lane and failure to carry current proof of insurance. His vehicle was towed; he was given a ride to the Selma Post Office.
    • Brent Eugene Benshoter, 39, was arrested at 4:37 p.m. on Watkins Street at Shop Smart under an OSP warrant for failure to appear (FTA) on a DWS charge. He also had two Josephine County Sheriff’s Office warrants for contempt of court, and was lodged in county jail.
    • At 6:23 p.m. a deputy on Hwy. 199 noticed a large cloud of dust and followed it down Hogue Drive, where he saw Brett Anthony Miller, 30, riding without a helmet down a roadway on a quad. Miller was cited on a DWS charge and warned for operating an ATV on a public roadway. He related that he was driving to a friend’s house, and didn’t walk because it was too far.
    • Buy Lenon Hudson, 40, was cited on a DWS charge at 6:32 p.m. in the 200 block of S. Junction Avenue, and his vehicle was towed.
  • Saturday, Sept. 19
    • Following a report of a high-speed car at 5:30 p.m., Rebecca Lynn Sommers, 41, was cited at Hwy. 199 and Laurel Road on a DWS charge, and warned for defective windshield wipers and for failure to carry current proof of insurance. Her car was towed.
    • In the 600 block of Hays Cut Off Road at 9:13 p.m., a caller reported coming home to find her front door busted down. It caused damage to the frame and door handle, estimated in excess of $100. Believes it may be part of a continuing problem with neighbors. There was no confirmed suspect information. Photos were taken and placed into evidence.
  • Monday, Sept. 21
    • It was reported in the 100 block of N. Hwy. 199 that two unknown people entered through a locked door and removed three cases of beer and a trash can. The estimated value of the beer was $75, and the trash can $15.
    • Her husband, claimed a woman in O’Brien at 5:33 p.m. “is crazy and banging his head on the wall.” The man later was outside by a car in just his underwear, and apparently consumed a bottle of peppermint schnapps. Deputies found the man to not be a danger to himself or others, nor had he consumed enough alcohol to constitute a medical emergency.
    • Joshua David Scott, 29, was arrested at 8 p.m. in O’Brien on multiple Josephine County warrants for parole violation stemming from an original charge of unlawful use of a vehicle, burglary and multiple assault charges. He was lodged in county jail.
    • Around the Wonder General Store, a complainant said that someone broke into her vehicle the previous evening, stole stereo equipment and left a knife. The doors and trunk were open, and the robber gained entrance by breaking the front windshield valued at $1,000. Stereo equipment was valued at $1,500, and prescription medications also were stolen.
  • Tuesday, Sept. 22
    • Mervin Abraham Rose, 49, was cited 12:56 p.m. in the 1700 block of Laurel Road under a Clatsop County Sheriff’s Office warrant for FTA on charges of elude and possession of a controlled substance.
    • Around 3 p.m. on S. River Road in rural Grants Pass, a neighbor of a vacant house that’s in foreclosure said that four men with a white pickup and utility trailer were removing items. They said they were working for a bank, but would not state which one. It all turned out OK, as deputies found upon investigation.
    • Near the north end of Cave Junction at 8:37 p.m., a child was riding on a trail and found what was thought to be a human hand. A deputy responded and found four hands and a head -- all belonging to a bear.
  • Wednesday, Sept. 23
    • Sleeping on some grass at noon on U.S. Forest Service/Wild Rivers Ranger District property in the 26000 block of Hwy. 199 in Cave Junction, Jeremy Richard Delzell, 55, was warned regarding trespass unless he had official government business.
    • Some people at 11:48 a.m. in the 800 block of Mesa Verde Drive were reported driving onto a woman’s property without her permission, although she blocked access with a fallen tree. She said that she would post a “No Trespassing” sign, and hoped it would work.
    • Continuous threats and harassment by another man were reported by a male person on Cedar Brook Lane. The complainant said that he was “physically touching me in an aggressive manner” and continued to thump his chest after being asked to stop. The complainant wanted the guy warned. The accused, who admitted poking, was warned and stated that he would not do it again.
    • Crystal Dawn Costa, 34, was arrested around 4 p.m. near the Illinois Valley News office in Cave Junction, and taken to Josephine County Jail in Grants Pass charged with second-degree criminal trespass. Approximately 11 Seroquil pills were located in her pants during a search. A charge of possession of a controlled substance will be referred to the D.A.
    • Daniel Brent Morrison, 48, was cited on Old Stage Road at Fir Drive under an outstanding warrant for FTA on a traffic offense and two counts of fourth-degree assault. He also was cited for DWS and warned for defective tail-lights.
    • Outside Speedy Mart in Cave Junction at 10:06 p.m., a suspicious man with a walking stick and backpack was scaring the lone employee and feeding animals. William Josiah Olson, 34, was “trespassed.”
    • At 11 p.m. in the 29000 block of Hwy. 199, Jeffrey Tyler Barnes, 18, was cited under a warrant for FTA on a DUII charge.
