Hot, dry weather contributed to a spate of fires across Southern Oregon on Monday, Sept. 21, including this one in the 5300 block of Holland Loop. Illinois Valley Fire District (IVFD) and Oregon Dept. of Forestry responded, containing the blaze before it spread deeply into adjacent wildland. Fires in Ashland and Medford burned some 100 and 600 acres, respectively. IVFD firefighters and equipment were called to support the regional firefighting effort. Thanks to a $250,000 grant from the U.S. Dept. of Justice (DOJ), Josephine County will be able to fully implement its mental health court for nonviolent persons involved in some offenses.
