‘Mike’ Des Pois

No service is planned for Challenger Fence owner Michael Kenneth Des Pois, 46, of Kerby, who died Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2009 at his home.

Michael was born Nov. 6, 1962 in Santa Barbara, Calif. He attended Casa Robles High School. On Feb. 22, 1992 in Folsom, Calif. he married Debbie Stackhouse. In 1994 they moved from Sacramento to Kerby.

At age 16 he began building fences, and currently owned and operated Challenger Fence and Decks, based in Kerby.

His hobbies included fishing, camping, and gardening.

Besides his wife, Debbie Des Pois of Kerby; he is survived by four children, Shannon Des Pois, of Roseville, Calif., Lisa Wilkins, of Kerby, Patrick Wilkins, of Folsom, and Sarah Henderson, of Taos, N.M.; his mother, Barbara Des Pois, of Sprague River; two brothers, Gary Des Pois, of Sprague River, and Donald Des Pois, of Gold Beach; and five grandchildren.

Illinois Valley Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.


Judy Faye Wallace

Judy Faye Wallace, 57, of Kerby died Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009, at Three Rivers Community Hospital in Grants Pass.

Mrs. Wallace was born on Feb. 27, 1952 in Grants Pass to Clifford & Anita Phillips. Growing up in Cave Junction she attended Illinois Valley schools, graduating from Illinois Valley High School. In September 1971 she married Loren J. Wallace in Reno, Nev.; he died in 1979.

She worked as the kitchen manager at Evergreen Elementary School in Cave Junction, retiring after 16 years because of failing health. She enjoyed sewing, baking, trips to the coast and spending time with her grandchildren.

Surviving are her daughter, Kim Medrano, of Kerby; a son, Jeff Wallace, of Santa Cruz, Calif.; a brother, Cliff Phillips, of Cave Junction; a sister, Beverly Warren, of Aloha, Ore.; and four grandchildren.

Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her sister, Barbara Phillips, in 2001.

Cremation arrangements are by Stephens Family Chapel.


Howard F. Paul

A memorial service for Howard F. Paul will be held on Saturday, Sept. 19, beginning at 2 p.m. at Valley Evangelical Free Church, 498 Laurel Road, in Cave Junction.


Mary Frances Coyne

Mary Frances “Sam” Coyne, 64, of Cave Junction, died Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009 at her home.

A memorial service will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 18, at Illinois Valley Funeral Directors chapel in Cave Junction. The family guest book is available at since1928hull.com.

Mrs. Coyne was born Oct. 9, 1944 in Peoria, Ill. to Clarence & Ruth Pankey. In 1962 she graduated from high school in Longwood, Fla. She joined the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1965. On April 2, 1965 in Enterprise, Alabama she married Leslie Coyne. For four years she worked as a bookkeeper in Illinois. She attended nursing school from 1980 to ‘82 and graduated as a licensed practical nurse.

After moving to Nevada, she worked for many years as an accountant for different companies. In 2004 she moved from Nevada to Cave Junction.

She volunteered with Make-A-Wish Foundation and trained volunteers. She also volunteered at the Illinois Valley Senior Center, was vice president for two years. She also volunteered at the Senior Thrift Shop.

Her hobbies included vegetable and flower gardening, embroidery, ceramics, collecting oil lamps, traveling, reading, and raising chickens and dogs. She enjoyed giving to others, including donating blood.

Besides her husband, Leslie E. Coyne; survivors are a son, Ken Coyne; and a daughter, Wendy Imerti, all of Cave Junction; three sisters, Delilah Inman, of Florida, Jolene Hall and Susan McCurry, both of Tennessee; a brother, Charles Pankey, of Tennessee; and two grandchildren.
