DETOUR DETAILS - Illinois Valley Lions Club will sponsor its 37th annual Labor Day Parade through Downtown Cave Junction on Monday, Sept. 7. Redwood Hwy. (U.S. Hwy. 199) will be closed at Laurel Road and Caves Hwy. from 9:30 a.m. to noon on that day. Detours will be posted at both closures. “Please be prepared for slow traffic during that time,” said organizer Harry Johnson. Also, a 30-by-60-foot U.S. flag, furnished by the Lions Club of Dorris, Calif. will be featured in the parade. Flag bearers are needed to march in the parade. Contact Harry Johnson at 596-2104.

SINGING THING - The 3 Rivers Chorale will start its fall session with Kate Campbell, interim music director, on Monday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. at the Center for Spiritual Living at 466 S.W. "I" St. in Grants Pass. Auditions will begiin at 8:30 p.m. following the first rehearsal. Bring a piece of music to sing. The community choir is membership supported. Singers come from Grants Pass, Rogue River, and the Applegate and Illinois Valley areas. A $50 tuition covers compensation for the director, hall rental and sheet music. FIBER ARTS FANFAIR - Registration is now open to fiber artists and artisans for the Fiber Arts Show & Sale, to be held in conjunction with the Valley Girls Quilt Show on Oct. 16 and 17. LUCKY DUCKY - Based at Riverside Park, the seventh annual Grants Pass Rogue Duck Derby will be held on Sept. 26. Prizes include a $15,000 Alaskan fishing trip or a $10,000 home entertainment-and-furniture package; a Southern Oregon get-away package featuring lodging and meals; a “coffee-a-day” pass for a year from Dutch Bros.; one-of-a-kind artwork; and much more. The event, which has raised funds to rebuild athletic fields at high schools in Josephine County, is presented by the Grants Pass Rotary Club Foundation. Duck entry adoption forms are available in Illinois Valley at Bi-Rite Auto Parts and Home Valley Bank. Also, there will be remote Duck Derby adoption sites during events throughout September.

NOTEPAD - Poetry and storytelling by David Hodges and friends will be featured at the Chateau at Oregon Caves National Monument on Wednesdays, Sept. 9, 16, 23 and 30 beginning at 7 p.m. For more information phone 592-3400 or (877) 245-9022 ... From Saturday, Sept. 5 through Monday, Sept. 7 the Illinois Valley Lions Club will hold its annual Labor Day Festival in Jubilee Park from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. There will be food and fun activities for all. Organizers ask that dogs stay home and that there be no riding bikes or skateboards in the park. There is no charge for admission or parking. “Remember the Tuff Truck Races are Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. Come out and bring the whole family,” said organizers ... The Pregnancy Center of Illinois Valley will hold a Parent Night on Tuesday, Sept. 8 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Josephine County Bldg. in Cave Junction. The gathering will feature a DVD by Pam Stenzel, founder and director of Enlighten Communications. She is the former director of Alpha Women’s Center and now travels the world bringing a message of purity, character and integrity to more than 350,000 teen-agers, parents and educators each year. This event is free and refreshments will be served ... Lorna Byrne Middle School will hold an open house on Wednesday, Sept. 9 from 6 to 8 p.m. ... Some 96 cars with 228 people took part in the Old Redwood Stage Road tour on Saturday, Aug. 22, said tour organizer Roger Brandt ... Illinois Valley Golf Course will have a yard sale on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 12 and Sept. 13 at the golf course to raise funds for course maintenance and continuance of the Junior Golf Program. Donations can be brought to the clubhouse prior to Sept. 10.
