From our weekly issue dated August 26, 2009

Marking 150 years of statehood, 11 area nonprofit groups, under the coordination of Cory Allen and the Cave Junction Lions Club, have organized three weekends of “low-cost, family friendly” activities to celebrate Oregon’s “Past, Present and Future.”

Events celebrating the “Present” will be held on Saturday and Sunday, Aug 29 & 30 with a “fun day for the entire family.”

Featured will be a field day at Jubilee Park including games and races such as the sack race, egg tosses, and three-legged race. Also five Native American groups with dancers, story tellers, and talking drum will make presentations.

Horseback riding, petting zoo and Children’s activities will be offered by Illinois Valley Family Coalition and Helping Hands Day Care. Face painting and a puppet show also are planned.

In keeping with the goal of low-cost family fun, reasonably priced food for breakfast and lunch will be available.

Cave Junction Lions will be providing breakfast and American Legion will host Bingo in the park pavilion.

There will be more than 40 vendors, as well as booths featuring food and information.
