Grants Pass DMV office might move
CJ facility may get busy

From our weekly issue dated August 26, 2009

The Driver & Motor Vehicle Services Division (DMV) office in Cave Junction might become way busier than usual soon, as the Grants Pass office could be moving to another location.

The lease for the Grants Pass office at 531 N.E. F St. is due to expire soon, and is being renegotiated, according to DMV spokesman David House in Salem.

“It’s likely that it will close temporarily and reopen at another (location) is what it looks like,” House said.

Those kinds of matters are handled by the state Dept. of Administrative Services, House said, which keeps details confidential until the deals are finalized.

Despite that, he said it appears that the lease negotiations are not going well.

“It looks like we’re going to move,” he said. “I don’t know where, when or anything like that.”

He said that on average, DMV typically moves an office or two per year. In such instances, he said that staff typically are moved to surrounding offices during the move.

House said he is unsure at this time if the Cave Junction office will have additional staff assigned, but that DMV will know as the move gets closer.

“We’ll just have to wait and see,” House said. “We’ll have to work that out at that point.”
