Wednesday, Aug. 12
- A Kerby resident stated that she received three letters from her ex-husband, who is in prison. She wants no further contact, she said, and will seek a restraining order.
- Emergency personnel responded to a report that a man was lying on a sidewalk on S. Redwood Hwy. in Downtown Cave Junction at 2:14 p.m. He said that he was just resting.
- Someone entered a cafe in Selma through a window, the owner reported. But nothing was taken, apparently.

Thursday, Aug. 13
- Three persons were seen sitting on the open air stage at Jubilee Park at 12:21 a.m. They ran off as a deputy approached.
- Just after 2 a.m. a woman claimed that four Hispanic men attempted to kidnap her as she left a Downtown Cave Junction bar. She kicked her way free, she said, and ran to a house nearby.
- Theft of a “Smoker’s Outpost” cigarette butt container from behind Cave Junction City Hall was reported.
- A man was said to be throwing rocks at passing cars in the 100 block of S. Redwood Hwy. at 10:02 a.m. When passers-by asked him to stop, he reportedly threatened to throw rocks at them.
- A restraining order violation was reported on E. River Street.
- Damien M. Clark, 16, was cited on a charge of possession of a controlled substance (PCS)/less than an ounce of marijuana in Downtown Cave Junction at 6:21 p.m. He was released to the custody of his mother.
- Four people were warned against trespassing in the 300 block of S. Redwood Hwy. at 7:03 p.m.
- A Lakeshore Drive resident reported that kids were messing with mailboxes in the 1000 block, opening them and peeling street address labels off. The kids were warned about the serious repercussions of their behavior.
- Michael J. Carte, 27, was cited on a charge of speeding (62 mph in a 45 mph zone).
- Two people were contacted in the 300 block of S. Redwood Hwy. at 8:19 p.m. Neither claimed a nearby can of beer.
- Contacted in Downtown Cave Junction, Verl Boatman, 50, was lodged in Josephine County Jail in Grants Pass on restraining order violation charges.
- On Holland Loop at 10:07 p.m. a 17-year-old boy was said to be “out of control” and throwing items at his parents, their house and vehicles. The family agreed to settle the issues in the morning.

Friday, Aug. 14
- Nicholas Stephen Jones, 18, was cited for an illegal campfire near Six Mile Campground out Illinois River Road at 2:12 p.m.
- Stephen Ray Clardy, 53, was lodged in county jail on charges of second-degree criminal mischief and a warrant charging failure to appear (FTA) on a charge of second-degree burglary and third-degree theft following an episode of shoplifting at Shop Smart Food Warehouse.
- At Illinois River Forks State Park, Donald Bernald, 49, was cited on warrants charging FTA on original charges of driving with a suspended license (DWS) and driving while revoked (DWR).
- A man with blond hair and a beard, apparently also blond, and wearing green shorts and a red sweatshirt was said to be walking back and forth near residences in the 28000 block of Redwood Hwy. at 5:33 p.m. The caller was concerned because the man kept looking at her.
- Shirley Sarfaty, 51, was cited on a charge of PCS/less than an ounce of marijuana, at Illinois River Forks State Park at 6:16 p.m.
- A gray Ford van was reported stolen from the driveway at Great Cats World Park at 8:03 p.m.
- A caller on Elwood Lane reported that a “transient male” wearing a red sweatshirt and brown shorts and driving a silver-colored van approached her gate and asked her for money to go to Crescent City.
- The owner of a stolen gray van reported that his vehicle had been seen in O’Brien.
- Located in O’Brien, Robert David Smith, 35, was cited on charges of unauthorized use of a vehicle, unauthorized entry of a vehicle and first-degree theft. The gray van that Smith was accused of stealing was recovered at a Lone Mountain Road address. Smith was lodged in county jail.
- Following a report that a child had been assaulted on S. Junction Avenue, Jade Charleton Yandell, 19, was cited on charges of third- and fourth-degree assault. Also, he was cited on a charge of minor in possession of alcohol. His blood-alcohol content was logged at .24.
- A deputy noted three people alongside Redwood Hwy. near Westside Road. One was on the ground. When he checked, the deputy was told that one had fallen.

Saturday, Aug. 15
- The valley was pretty quiet.

Sunday, Aug. 16
- Two children, 5 and 6 years old, were reported missing from a residence in the 500 block of S. Redwood Hwy. at 3:46 p.m. They were located not far away. The children were returned to their mother, and admonished to not go visiting friends without mother.

Monday, Aug. 17
- A blue pickup truck was reported abandoned on a W. Schumacher Street lot.
- A Selma resident stated that she’d been assaulted by her boyfriend when she packed her things to leave. Also, he broke the rear window on her vehicle, she said.
- A man stated that he’d been bitten by a transient person’s dog as he was breaking up a dog fight. He wondered if he might need shots.
- Jeremy Beck, 29, was lodged in county jail on a charge of probation violation after he phoned to report that he’d been assaulted at a Barlow Street residence, where he had no permission to be.
- At 7 p.m. a Burgundy Lane resident said that four teen-aged girls walked past her house, shouting about “how intoxicated and high” they were.
- Vehicles were noted in the driveway of a vacant residence on Caves Hwy.
- On Shadowbrook Drive a caller said that there was a disturbance stemming from a dog having been run over.

Tuesday, Aug. 18
- In Kerby, a caller reported hearing a car go off the road and the sounds of the engine revving and a girl screaming. Two young men stated that they were having some off-road fun on the powerline road, when their vehicle careened into a ditch off Holton Creek Road. The screaming was from a girlfriend of one, who was angry about the incident.
- A miner said that someone had jumped his Sucker Creek claims, replacing his paperwork with theirs.
- Disoriented, bleeding from the head and pushing a plastic wheelbarrow, a man was found traveling slowly down O’Brien Road at 4:50 p.m. David James Parker, 50, was treated for a scratch and bump to the head, and he was lodged in county jail on a warrant charging probation violation on an original second-degree burglary charge.
- No reason was found for an alarm at Sterling Savings Bank in Cave Junction at 8:31 p.m.
- A caller stated that a man entered her Kerby residence and said something about beating her up. Charges of first-degree burglary, domestic menacing and four charges of restraining order violation were referred to the county district attorney.
