  • Tuesday, July 7
    • Theft of a wallet from a vehicle near Six Mile Campground was reported.
    • A Dick George Road resident reported that neighbor kids were shooting bottle-rockets from the upstairs window of their house. But the boys said they’d been playing video games all day.
    • Unwanted as neighbors, some people were said to be camping on Schumacher Street property.
    • Shannon Marie Hewitt, 19, was cited on a charge of no operator’s permit, and her vehicle was impounded following a report of someone failing to leave their name at the scene of an accident.
    • Theft of a Stihl chainsaw and vandalism involving dumped paint, causing some $2,000 damage, was reported on Forest Creek Road.
    • A Rockydale Road residence was entered through a window; and theft of a computer, cooling fan and hard drive with a total estimated value of $1,300 was reported.
    • Gunshots were reported from behind a residence on Rockydale Road at 10:23 p.m.
    • From Queen of Bronze Road a resident phoned to say that gunshots heard in his neighborhood were not being fired by him.
  • Wednesday, July 8
    • The owner of a motorcycle claimed that he had to prevent a driver from fleeing after the fellow ran over his ‘cycle in the 18000 block of Hwy. 199 in Selma.
    • A man was said to be having an “intense” conversation with a trash can on S. Redwood Hwy. in Downtown CJ at 3:10 p.m. It was not noted if the can responded.
    • Contacted in Downtown Cave Junction, Neil Francis White, 57, was cited on a warrant charging failure to appear (FTA) on an original second-degree criminal trespass charge. He was lodged in Josephine County Jail.
    • A man who reported a child custody disagreement was told it was a civil matter.
    • At 7:43 p.m. a Cave Junction woman advised a deputy that a man had kicked in the door of her residence in an attempt to regain custody of his son.
    • Following a motor vehicle accident near the O’Brien Country Store at 9:15 p.m., William Ernest Birchfield, 50, was cited on charges of driving while suspended (DWS), driving uninsured and illegal U-turn. His vehicle was impounded.
  • Thursday, July 9
    • A previously cracked window finally broke, causing a glass-breakage alarm to sound at My Brother’s Pub at 2:36 a.m.
    • On Iron Way a dispute concerning installation of a phone line prompted yelling and threatening, a caller said at 9:09 a.m.
    • A fee box containing approximately $19 was reported stolen from a camping area at Lake Selmac.
    • A Kerby resident reported a child custody dispute at 1:24 p.m.
    • Someone in a pickup truck threatened physical violence against him and ran him off a private road as he was riding an ATV, according to a Lakeshore Drive resident.
    • Illinois Valley Fire District, American Medical Response and a deputy responded to an accident on E. River Street involving an SUV that lost a tire and ended up with its rear in bushes. The driver was nowhere to be found, but emergency workers were familiar with the vehicle.
  • Friday, July 10
    • Cindi Marie McNair, 24, was cited on a charge of speeding (68 mph in a 55 mph zone) at milepost 22 on Hwy. 199 at 8:55 a.m.
    • Rachel Lara North, 40, was cited on a charge of speeding (70 mph in a 55 mph zone) on Hwy. 199 near Eight Dollar Mountain Road at 9:15 a.m.
    • On Eight Dollar Mountain Road, Kathleen Elizabeth Jackson-Hall, 48, was cited on a charge of speeding (60 mph in a 50 mph zone).
    • On Hwy. 199 near Eight Dollar Mountain Road, Nancy Catalina Esparza Phillips, 37, was cited on a charge of speeding (67 mph in a 55 mph zone). Another driver, Richard Charles Ashbaugh, was cited on a charge of improper fenders. Also cited on charges of speeding in this vicinity were Gail Ann Mentzer, 61, (69 mph in a 55 mph zone); and Jeffry Alan Hatch, 34, (67 mph in a 55 mph zone).
    • In the 24000 block of Hwy. 199, Michelle Elizabeth Smith, 22, was cited on a charge of speeding (67 mph in a 55 mph zone).
    • In the 21000 block of Hwy. 199, Dale Tennyson Lewis, 71, was cited on a charge of speeding (74 mph in a 55 mph zone).
    • A caller from the 1400 block of Lakeshore Drive stated that someone in the neighborhood had been having loud concerts.
    • Emil Kovtun, 83, was cited on a charge of speeding (77 mph in a 55 mph zone) in the 22000 block of Hwy. 199.
    • Jesse Colton Young, 19, was cited on a charge of speeding (60 mph in a 45 mph zone) on Redwood Hwy. near Caves Hwy. at 1:08 p.m. Also cited on Redwood Hwy. south of Cave Junction: Sidra Hattie Darcy, 37, (64 mph in a 45 mph zone); Gene Augustus Roche, 39, (60 mph in a 45 mph zone); Margaret E. Gracely, 84, (68 mph in a 55 mph zone); Roberto Jesus Herrera, 22, (77 mph in a 55 mph zone); and Jason Moava, 36 (failure to notify DMV of change of address).
    • Lisa Rae Hazzard, 45, was cited on charges of DWS and speeding (60 mph in a 45 mph zone) on N. Redwood Hwy. at W. Palmer Street at 2:58 p.m.
    • Ronald Nelson Young, 66, was cited on a charge of VBR (speeding: 70 mph in a 55 mph zone) on Hwy. 199 in Kerby.
    • Robert Everett Lee Parsons, was cited on a charge of VBR on S. Kerby Avenue at Schumacher Street.
    • Three motorcyclists: Dale Stewart, 48; Jason Silvera, 30; and John York, 50, were cited on charges of VBR and careless driving at Sauer’s Flat at 3:54 p.m.
    • At Illinois River Forks State Park, Megan Sheree Baker, was cited on charges of interfering with a peace officer, resisting arrest and assault on a public safety officer. Additionally, Baker was cited on a charge of DWS. Another person fled.
    • Also at the Forks, Tasha R. Thornton, 21, was cited on warrants charging FTA on charges including unauthorized use of a vehicle and first-degree theft. Additionally, Thornton was cited on a charge of DWS.
    • In the 200 block of S. Redwood Hwy., James Irvin Mutina, 57; Charles James Vile, 53; and Phillip Yves Fraser, 54, were cited to appear on charges of second-degree criminal trespassing. Jeremy Justin Beck, 29, was lodged in Josephine County Jail on a charge of second-degree criminal trespass.
    • Cory Christopher Woodward, 19, was cited on a charge of VBR in the 29000 block of Hwy. 199.
    • Four people were warned regarding open hours at Illinois River Forks State Park at 9:17 p.m. Nicholas Boyd Bryant, 19, was cited on a charge of no operator’s permit.
    • Jeremy Justin Beck, 29, was cited on charges of possession of marijuana within 1,000 feet of a school, introduction of contraband to jail and probation violation.
  • Saturday, July 11
    • In Kerby a man said that his ex-girlfriend has been harassing him via telephone. He wanted her to be told to stop doing that.
    • A woman who’d been camping at Tennessee Mountain stated to emergency room workers that she sat on a .22-caliber gun and it “discharged into her buttocks.” She was treated for a bird-shot wound.
    • A disturbance involving various family members was reported on N. Caves Avenue at 3:50 p.m.
    • Bret Matheson, 17, was lodged in the Juvenile Justice Center in Grants Pass on a charge of probation violation following a disturbance on Caves Avenue.
    • On Illinois River Road at 9:12 p.m., a man, who appeared “high,” stated that he’d been chased from his campsite by large snakes that wanted his food. He was told to return to the campsite when it was light. There was no further information about the snakes.
    • Loud music, yelling and revving car engines on S. Redwood Hwy. were complained about at 10:12 p.m.
  • Sunday, July 12
    • Damage to lamps and landscaping at Country Folks Restaurant in Selma was reported at 10:40 a.m. And a fire had been set behind the building, it was reported.
    • On N. Old Stage Road a woman complained that a man threatened to shoot her family. He denied making any threats.
  • Monday, July 13
    • Theft of a tow dolly from a yard on Burch Drive was reported.
    • Returning home from out of town, an O’Brien resident discovered a gray Lexus parked on his driveway. The car hadn’t been reported stolen, so the home owner was told that law enforcement has no authority to tow it.
    • A stout mailbox on a steel pole was struck down in the 4000 block of Dick George Road, a caller said.
    • It was stated that “numerous people” were living on property in the 33000 block of Hwy. 199 without the owner’s permission. They were given until Aug. 1 to leave or be “trespassed.”
    • Two people who were not to have contact with one another were reported together at a Caves Avenue residence.
    • From the 100 block of S. Redwood Hwy. a dispute between family members was logged as a disturbance around 11:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday, July 14
    • A child custody disagreement was reported in the 32000 block of Hwy. 199.
    • On Hogue Drive a woman said that two men threw a rock through a window of her car.
    • Fernando Dominguez, 37, was lodged in Josephine County Jail on warrants charging FTA on an original charge of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and probation violation.
    • On Lamont Way a man stated that his former daughter-in-law continues to phone, demanding property said to be hidden by her estranged husband. The caller wanted the harassment to stop.
    • Said to be barricaded in a bedroom on N. Caves Avenue with someone with whom he was to have no contact, Bret Matheson, 17, was lodged in the county juvenile facility on charges of violation of conditional release, third-degree escape and resisting arrest.
    • A deputy was told by a citizen that a “suspicious person” at a business in Downtown Cave Junction was wearing a gun on his hip (which is legal) and also that there was a shotgun in a rack in the window of the person’s pickup truck (also legal).
    • Amber Dutton, 31, was cited on a charge of first-degree criminal trespass on N. Caves Avenue at 8:17 p.m.
    • A caller on Logan Cut Drive stated that for the fourth time this week a bear was rifling through the trash on the back porch. It was noted that “trash taken into the wooded area (nearby) indicates this particular bear likes junk food.”
