A Selma man was arrested on multiple charges on Friday evening, July 3 after at least two incidents near Lake Selmac.
Subsequently, Steven Reid, 51, was charged with assaulting a public safety officer, unlawful use of a firearm, menacing, and two counts of resisting arrest. He was lodged in Josephine County Jail in Grants Pass.
Josephine County 911 Dispatch Center received a report of disorderly conduct and menacing near the 2600 block of Lakeshore Drive at 6:22 p.m. It was reported that Reid was stopping traffic and yelling at drivers.
Josephine County Sheriff's Office (JCSO) reports state that one person contacted Undersheriff Don Fasching to advise that Reid was wearing a holstered pistol. Reid was accused by the person of putting his hand on the weapon during one confrontation, JCSO stated.
Deputies later contacted the victim by phone. He reported that at 5:30 p.m., he was driving by the lake when Reid ran in front of his vehicle and yelled obscenities in an attempt to slow it down. According to JCSO, the victim suspected that Reid might have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol and was “crazy enough to shoot me.”
At 7:28 p.m., a deputy was patrolling Lakeshore Drive when Reid ran toward his patrol cruiser. Other officers were dispatched. Reid, who was shirtless, began yelling at deputies before being taken into custody, it is stated. JCSO reports that Reid struggled with deputies and kicked one in the chest and right arm. Deputies responded by tazing Reid in the stomach.

After Reid was detained in the cruiser, a man drove up and reported another incident involving the suspect.
The man told deputies that at approximately 5:45 p.m., Reid ran in front of his vehicle as he drove past the lake. Reid apparently threw a beer can at the man’s truck, hitting the driver’s side of the bed. There was no obvious damage to the victim’s vehicle, JCSO states.
Deputies located a shotgun outside of Reid’s residence. Inside, they found the pistol and holster used in one of the incidents. “Both weapons were loaded and ready to shoot,” JCSO said.
