MIX IT UP - Illinois Valley Chamber of Commerce will hold a get-together at Bridgeview Vineyards Winery on Friday, July 10, from 5 to 7 p.m. There will be refreshments and wine tasting. The public and members of the business community can attend. Phone 592-3326 for additional information.
CAVES COMMEMORATION - Sunday, July 12, will mark the centennial of Oregon Caves National Monument. The National Park Service invites the community to join the celebration. Commemorative festivities will kick off on Saturday, July 11 with an ice cream social at 1 p.m. Ice cream will be served by Oregon First Lady Mary Oberst and her family. Attendees can view a newly renovated model room in the Oregon Caves Chateau, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary. This model room is part of a multimillion dollar restoration and renovation of the property, slated to begin in 2012. Historic photos taken during the construction of the Chateau in the early 1930s will also be displayed. On Sunday, July 12 at noon there will be festive singing and anniversary cake. Special programs will be offered throughout the day. Joan Momsen of the Josephine County Historical Society will tell stories about her reign as an Oregon Caves’ queen. Park Ranger Tom Siewert will portray Elijah Davidson, the first-known explorer of Oregon Caves. Meet community partners and organizations featured at educational and informational tables, including Illinois Valley Fire District, Siskiyou Field Institute, Illinois Valley Arts Council, U.S. Forest Service, U.S. Bureau of Land Management, and other area groups. LOVEJOY HEARTY EVENT - Lovejoy Hospice’s second annual Heart of Summer Gala will include wine-and-chocolate tasting, music and a fun-filled live auction on Saturday, July 11 at the Bear Hotel, 2101 Spalding Ave. in Grants Pass starting at 5:30 p.m. Oregon Little Big Band will play, and the caterer will be Aroma Café. The event will be highlighted by a live auction featuring unique items and services, including spending a day with a custom motorcycle builder, a hot air balloon ride with lunch for two, and a personal flying lesson. Tickets are available by phoning 474-1193. Other support opportunities include the Auction Online at lovejoyhospice.org and a raffle for a $2,000 Visa debit card. Lovejoy Hospice provides bereavement support to children, families and individuals; as well as community and professional education. Funds raised through Heart of Summer help Lovejoy provide these vital services, not generally reimbursed by insurance. PARADE PREPARATIONS - “Labor Day is coming,” says Illinois Valley Lions Club member Harry Johnson. “It's time for all of you to get your floats dusted off or start making them.” This year’s Labor Day Parade theme is 150 years of Oregon History, Hear the Past, See the Future. Bring all necessary boating paperwork and required safety equipment. Those who pass the exam will receive a decal ... An All-Congregations evening service will be held on Sunday, July 26 beginning at 6 p.m. at Community Bible Church. Guests Rich & Carly Cantrell will speak about ministry in Honduras ... Rally ‘Round the Rogue, a fund-raising scavenger hunt, will be held on Saturday, Aug. 1, on the Options For Southern Oregon parking lot, 1215 S.W. G St. in Grants Pass.
