‘MUSEUM SALE’ - A yard sale to benefit Kerbyville Museum is set for Friday and Saturday, July 3 and 4. (No museum items will be sold). Sellers can rent space for 10 bucks, but need to bring their own table. Phone 592-5252 for additional information.
GET FRESH! - Selma Farmers Market next to Selma Baptist Church on Hwy. 199 is open Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. “Produce from the many small farms and large gardens in Illinois Valley” is offered. Also, “a variety of unique creations by I.V.’s talented artists and craftsmen.” Persons who want to rent space should phone 592-3759.
CHATEAU CHAT - Poetry and story-telling by “David Hodges & Friends” is set for Wednesday, July 8 at 7:30 p.m. at Oregon Caves Chateau. The event is in connection with the 75th anniversary of the historic lodge, and the 100th of Oregon Caves Monument. For Sunday, July 12, it has been announced that Gov. Kulongoski will serve ice cream at the site during a day-long 100th anniversary celebration. There also will be special tours and birthday cake.
SKY LIGHTS - With the theme, “Honoring Those Who Serve” (in the Armed Forces) there will be a fireworks show, preceded by patriotic events, on Saturday, July 4 at the Josephine County Fairgrounds in Grants Pass. Redwood Lions Club and others are sponsoring the program. Gates will open at 7 p.m. Several levels of donation classifications to help fund the event are available. They range from “Adopt A Soldier” for $300 to dedicate a silo of fireworks; to corporate sponsorships from $500. Checks can be sent to Redwood Lions Club, P.O. Box 5408, Grants Pass OR 97527.
SUMMER READING - Any student of elementary or middle school age can check out books from Monday, July 6 through July 30 at the Evergreen Elementary School library. Jannie Heller, librarian, said that the site will be open Mondays through Thursdays from 8:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Parents will need to bring an Oregon driver license to get their children signed up. LOVEJOY HEARTY EVENT - Lovejoy Hospice’s second annual Heart of Summer Gala will include wine-and-chocolate tasting, music and a fun-filled live auction on Saturday, July 11 at the Bear Hotel, 2101 Spalding Ave. in Grants Pass starting at 5:30 p.m. Oregon Little Big Band will play, and the caterer will be Aroma Café. The event will be highlighted by a live auction featuring unique items and services, including spending a day with a custom motorcycle builder, a hot air balloon ride with lunch for two, and a personal flying lesson. Tickets are available by phoning 474-1193. Other support opportunities include the Auction Online at lovejoyhospice.org and a raffle for a $2,000 Visa debit card. Lovejoy Hospice provides bereavement support to children, families and individuals; as well as community and professional education. Funds raised through Heart of Summer help Lovejoy provide these vital services, not generally reimbursed by insurance. SUMMER FUN - “Lunch, Fun & Love” is the theme for the Illinois Valley Safe House Alliance’s second annual “Super Kids” summer fun program. Children 4 to 12 years of age can attend Wednesdays through Fridays: July 8 through 10, and 15 through 17, from 12:30 to 4 p.m. The alliance site (former location of Home Valley Bank) is on Kerby Avenue in Cave Junction next to the DMV office and across from city hall. NOTEPAD - An Oregon Mt. Real Estate ad in last week’s issue included, “Get it right this time.” We just wanted to let you know that Oregon Mt. was talking about an error it made, not the I.V. News ... Two safe house volunteers, Sharon Seaburg and Cliff Guyton, inadvertently were not included in info given the News for a recent “Thank You” ad. So I.V. Safe House Alliance hereby fixes its goof … O’Brien Country Store was the principle site for rigs brought for the recent McGrew Trail event. We goofed last issue by saying they were at Lone Mountain RV Resort, which had a crowd of its own … Eight Dollar Road was closed temporarily Friday, June 26, as forest service officials discovered a six-band concert was planned at the green bridge. However, promoters had not bothered to secure the necessary permits, and some 50 persons were turned away peacefully ... Men’s slow pitch softball season will begin Thursday, July 16, with games on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. The team sign-up deadline is Friday, July 3. Phone 592-5284 ...
