  • Thursday, June 11
    • Assault at a business on Hussey Avenue, resulting in an injured knee, was claimed.
    • Although 911 was dialed from an O’Brien location, there was no problem.
    • Domestic violence, possibly in connection with a property dispute, was noted in the 6000 block of Takilma Road at 1:05 p.m.
    • Melissa Jayne Lowenstein, 42, was arrested in Cave Junction under a warrant charging failure to appear (FTA) on a charge of driving under the influence of an intoxicant (DUII). She was warned about having alcohol in public.
    • Virginia E. Childress, 41, was cited in Cave Junction on a charge of failure to carry proof of insurance.
    • Illinois Valley High School and Lorna Byrne Middle School were patrolled prior to midnight.
    • Timothy F. Reilly, 51, was cited in Cave Junction on a charge of DUII. His blood-alcohol content was listed at .17 percent. He also was cited on a DWS charge. His vehicle was impounded.
    • Some really bright people pulled up “Stop” signs at W. River Street and N. Sawyer Avenue and put them in the middle of the roadway.
    • Burglary and criminal mischief were reported at Evergreen Elementary School. Multiple entry points were noted by the janitor.
    • Some brain threw fencing onto W. River Street.
  • Friday, June 12
    • Two men with “mutual disrespect” for each other had a disturbance on Queen of Bronze Road at 2:21 a.m. One admitted to firing a weapon in the air to get the other to leave, and the latter was advised to stay off the other guy’s land.
    • A bunch of guys were believed involved one way or another in an assault at a Cave Junction bar at 2:46 a.m.
    • At 3:30 a.m. a man said that he went to Hogue Drive to get his girlfriend, but that he was “chased off with bats.”
    • A “suspicious vehicle” at Bi-Rite Auto Parts was logged at 4:12 a.m.
    • People at I.V. Building Supply helped a young woman who seemed to be disoriented. They helped her to her home and parents.
    • When she drove behind a Selma business, a woman said, someone threw a rock and broke her windshield.
    • Came a call from a Cave Junction business about a person “trespassed” several times, who was back. The person left, but a report was pending on second-degree criminal trespassing.
    • Outside a Cave Junction church, three street people were contacted. Charles Brooks, 61, was arrested under a warrant charging FTA on a DUII charge.
    • On Kerby Avenue a man refusing to leave at 7:44 p.m. eventually boogied.
    • After leaving Taylor’s Country Store with a bottle of wine (unpaid for), Stace Ray Ashinhurst, 39, was “trespassed” and cited to appear on a charge of second-degree criminal trespass.
    • Running dogs, and people yelling and fighting were reported on Fir Drive at 9:30 p.m. Two men who had wrestled declined to pursue charges against each other.
    • One of those well-loved individuals we keep reading about broke into Wolf Creek Elementary School and made off with (stole) a computer.
    • Although an alarm sounded at 10:48 a.m. at Illinois Valley High School, there seemed to be no problem (except for the alarm).
  • Saturday, June 13
    • Echo Beach Campground and Store Gulch were patrolled out Illinois River Road prior to noon.
    • People couldn’t get along on Fir Drive, causing a disturbance. Civil options were provided those involved.
    • Little Falls trailhead out Eight Dollar Mountain Road was checked.
  • Sunday, June 14
    • Following a complaint from Selma that her car window was broken by an intoxicated person who hit it with a fist, Matthew S. Atkinson, 17, was found hiding in bushes, and was cited to appear on a charge of second-degree criminal mischief. He was released to his mother.
    • In Downtown Cave Junction a business owner was scared of her ex-husband, said to be hostile toward law enforcement personnel.
    • Following a call of a person missing from Dogwood Lane, the person was located.
    • Some guy wouldn’t leave a location on Fir Drive. The complainant was advised to not let him in the house.
    • Store Gulch out Illinois River Road was checked.
    • Tiffany Hope Brown, 23, was arrested in Kerby under a warrant charging five counts of first-degree theft.
    • The Lake Selmac area was checked at 5:07 p.m.; Kerby High Pines Campground & Mobilehome Park at 6:11 p.m.
    • The condition of an “elderly man” was checked at the south end of Cave Junction at 6:34 p.m.
    • Several mailboxes were damaged by a brilliant human being in the 2500 block of Rockydale Road.
    • Young people were checked and a driver warned about driving in a restricted area at Illinois River Forks State Park at 6:50 p.m.; Jubilee Park was patrolled at 7:02 p.m.; Hanby Lane/Mountain View Drive at 7:05 p.m.
    • Today and during other dates in this report, a number of drivers were warned about defective lights, speeding, obscured license plates, and other vehicular thingies.
    • No one was located jumping into Illinois River after running through traffic at “first bridge” on the south side of Cave Junction at 8:43 p.m.
    • On Too Far South Lane off W. River Street, Jesse Justin Tyme McGivern, 16, was arrested under a violation-of-conditional-release charge, and taken to the Juvenile Justice Center in Grants Pass.
    • Forks Park was patrolled at 10:10 p.m.
    • Some sort of suspicious person was peering into a Cave Junction business at 3:21 a.m., but no deputy was available; so the caller said she’d phone her boss, as no one else was to arrive until 4:30.
  • Monday, June 15
    • Items valued at $570 were reported stolen from two campsites on Osprey Loop at Josephine County camping sites at Lake Selmac.
    • No injuries were reported in connection with a “spin-out” accident near milepost 7 of state Hwy. 46 (Caves Hwy.) The driver was identified as Carlie R. Paulsen, 19.
    • Subsequent to concern about a man missing from Cave Junction, he was found to be a guest at Josephine County Jail in Grants Pass.
    • Tenants damaged his house on Lone Mountain Road, the owner said.
    • Although a woman felt that a service station attendant used her credit card for some stuff, it turned out to be a bank error, she reported later.
    • In connection with two people in a car, who refused to leave a Barlow Street address, a report on first-degree criminal trespass was pending.
    • Harassment, including a “threatening message,” was reported by a Selma man.
    • Trespassers were noted at Out ‘N’ About Treesort, but then they left.
    • Robert J. Myers, 38, was cited on a charge of second-degree criminal trespass after he went to a Cave Junction store from which he has been “trespassed” a lot.
    • Some nut scratched car windows and damaged mailboxes in the 2500 block of Rockydale Road.
    • At Josephine County Fairgrounds said to be trying to buy firearms, Chad M. Shinerock, 25, was arrested under two felony warrants from California charging possession, manufacturing and distribution of marijuana.
    • “Unknown reason” was listed for an alarm at Cave Junction Post Office at 2 p.m.
    • Near milepost 25 of state Hwy. 199 (Redwood Hwy.), Matthew A. Klozik, 45, was cited on a charge of driving 58 mph in a 40 zone.
    • There was another disturbance on Fir Drive.
    • Nelson Webbe, date-of-birth unclear, was cited in Cave Junction on charges of DWS and driving without insurance. The car he was driving was impounded.
    • In the 6000 block of Illinois River Road, Aaron N. Florino was cited on a charge of possession of marijuana, and arrested under a warrant charging two counts of second-degree rape. Trevor Porter and Morgan Schommer each were cited on a charge of being a minor in possession of alcohol. All three are 19.
    • Two men were advised that they were trespassing at the former Valley Farm & Garden site in Downtown Cave Junction at 4:55 p.m.
    • Bradley Dananny, (date-of-birth unclear) was cited on a charge of failure to obey a traffic control device at Hwy. 199 and Hwy. 46, and warned about proof of insurance.
    • Today and during other times in this report, deputies checked locations on Illinois River and Eight Dollar Mountain roads.
    • A woman in her 20s was warned about trespassing after a complaint from a S. Junction Avenue resident.
    • Forks Park was checked by a deputy at 6:20 p.m.
    • An O’Brien resident stated that it seems as though someone, possibly in Canada, eh?, has been using her debit card fraudulently since the beginning of June this year.
    • There was a report from the 23000 block of state Hwy. 199 (Redwood Hwy.) about people trespassing, and another report that they threatened to shoot the complainant from across Illinois River.
    • In Wilderville a driver was said to be “burning tires” as he drove, and yelling about trying to find a guy with a chainsaw.
    • Fast-driving squatters were reported on Dick George Road. A report was pending on fourth-degree felony domestic assault, and there was probable cause for an arrest.
    • Threatening phone calls about beating a wife were said to have been received by a Caves Hwy. resident in connection with items believed to have been stolen.
    • Out Caves Hwy. a woman given shelter was kicked out, but wouldn’t leave. Then she did.
    • No arrests were made in connection with a bunch of unruly people fighting on S. Junction Avenue at 11:12 p.m.
    • Brainy folks were back at it at 11:43 p.m. on S. Junction Avenue.
  • Tuesday, June 16
    • Again on S. Junction Avenue, at 11 minutes before 1 a.m., it was noted that criminal mischief had occurred to a car due to a female person who threw two rocks, according to a complainant.
    • Ray’s Food Place in Selma was checked at 1:36 a.m.
    • A courtesy ride to a motel was provided by a deputy for a woman with car trouble in Selma at 2:59 a.m.
    • Front-end damage to his car was reported by a man at 3:50 a.m. after a deer ran out in the 6500 block of Rockydale Road.
    • In Merlin, a church pastor stated that a transient, apparently from a new, nearby hobo camp, was checking all the windows and doors of the church. It was unclear if he wanted to pray or what.
    • A woman complained that someone broke into her car on Briggs Valley Road off Deer Creek Road and removed some $800 worth of stereo equipment. The thirsty thieves also took four beers valued at $4.
    • Theft of a purse containing identification and credit/debit cards was reported by a woman in the 15000 block of Illinois River Road.
    • Some sort of incident involving “yelling, screaming and smacking sounds” was reported from Barlow Street. An OSP trooper responded, but the outcome was not immediately available.
    • Two vehicles were said missing from a man’s property in Selma. It turned out that one was in a junk yard. The complainant “declared war” on law enforcement earlier this year, so the contact had to be with two deputies.
    • No reason was given for an alarm at Dome School in Takilma at 4:22 p.m.
    • Someone on Kirkham Road reported a neighbor playing a radio “full blast for the past four days straight,” maybe “in retaliation” for barking dogs. Later, it was noted that the radio was off. No word on the dogs.
    • Grants Pass Police searched for a man with some sort of knife who took drugs from a nurse at Oak Lane Retirement at 7:47 p.m.
    • Near milepost 2 of state Hwy. 46 (Caves Hwy.) a vehicle was upside-down at 8:12 p.m. The driver, said to be ejected, combative, intoxicated and incoherent, was identified as Brian McMahon, date of birth not provided, of Oroville, Calif.
  • Wednesday, June 17
    • Because he’s a registered sex offender, a man from California visiting in Selma notified the sheriff’s office.
    • Rachael D. Lawson, 35, was cited at Forks Park on charges of no proof of insurance and no child seat.
    • Also at the Forks, Dwayne Wilson, 42, was cited federally on charges of possession of a controlled substance (PCS)/marijuana, and DWS. At the same location, Shellie M. Martin, 40, was cited on charges of PCS/methamphetamine and DWS.
    • In Selma, Stephanie Ann Jones, 48, was cited and released on a DWS charge.
    • On Lone Mountain Road, a tenant thought that maybe her landlord, who showed up to tell her to leave, fired a gun into the air.
    • Rie Watanabe, 26, was cited in Cave Junction on a charge of driving 72 mph in a 45 mph zone.
    • Numerous shotgun blasts were reported in the 1800 block of Laurel Road at 10:12 a.m. In connection with them, a man accused another of shooting his turkeys.
    • “User error” was listed after an alarm at Lorna Byrne Middle School at 8:05 p.m.
    • Trespassing involving a man who owes money on Ollis Road was reported.
    • Some sort of disturbance on S. Junction Avenue was logged, and a drunk person was given a courtesy ride at 10:41 p.m.
    • At the Josephine County Bldg. in Cave Junction, a man was told to report to his probation officer on Monday and that if intoxication continues, he will be jailed. The man admitted to having drunk three Hurricanes (each normally made with 4 ounces of rum.)
    • New neighbors in rural Grants Pass on Williams Hwy. brought five dogs for their backyard. The next-door neighbor was unhappy.
  • Thursday, June 18
    • Also in rural Grants Pass, a woman saw her friend’s stolen car; followed it; phoned deputies; they got it.
    • On Hogue Drive, Kevin D. Baremore, 42, was arrested under two warrants, both in connection with illegal drugs.
    • Six fine examples of humanity were the cause of a call about disorderly conduct at Store Gulch. Swimming naked, they were refusing to put on their clothing. They eventually moved on.
    • On Mesa Verde Drive, there was a report of a juvenile person with a gun and another youth “freaking out.” Eventually, Jered Matthias, 15, was arrested on charges of first-degree burglary, second-degree theft, first-degree criminal mischief, felon in possession of a weapon, and minor in possession of alcohol (MIP). Rudy L. Lubrano, 18, was charged the same except for MIP. Both were taken to the Juvenile Justice Center.
    • Because her engine was hot, a woman left her hood up while at a store in Cave Junction. When she returned, the distributor cap was missing. She bought another, and the car then started.
    • People in the 4800 block of Lakeshore Drive had a disturbance at 5:37 p.m. Not to be outdone, people in the 500 block of Caves Hwy. had a disturbance at 5:39 p.m.
    • After he fell from the back of a motorcycle at 6:24 p.m. near 22100 Hwy. 199, Cave Junction resident Harold Beck, 50, was taken by a Mercy Flights helicopter for medical aid. The helo landed at Selma Baptist Church.
    • A father on Dick George Road was worried about his daughter, 15, as he couldn’t locate her. She was found later and counseled.
  • Friday, June 19
    • Caleb T. Orton, 20, was cited on a charge of speeding (90 mph in a 55 mph zone) at 27 past midnight near milepost 20 of Hwy. 199.
