  • Sunday, May 31
    • A caller in Kerby was strongly urged to not shoot her brother in retaliation for his plan to kill an injured cat. Those involved agreed to take the injured animal to a veterinarian to be euthanized.
    • A large hole in asphalt near the green bridge on Eight Dollar Mountain Road was reported. It was noted that the U.S. Forest Service is aware of the problem.
    • Nicole Kathryn Ettner, 19, was cited on a parking violation charge near the 8-mile marker on Illinois River Road at 5:47 p.m.
    • Stopped in O’Brien, Nile E. White Jr., 54, was cited on charges of driving with a suspended license (DWS) and defective brake light. White was warned regarding expired registration and improper display.
    • Two callers complained that a camouflage-painted Toyota pickup truck had been racing around on Schumacher Street at 9:30 p.m.
  • Monday, June 1
    • Theft of prescription meds from a vehicle on Indian Creek Road was reported.
    • From the 6000 block of Holland Loop came a complaint of theft of a wallet containing cash and credit cards from a locked vehicle.
    • Someone reported a “verbal altercation” between several men on Millie Street at 9:13 a.m. It was said to be a continuing problem.
    • Following a single-vehicle accident on Happy Camp Road noted at 9:43 p.m., Richard M. Jones, 45, was cited on a charge of driving under the influence of an intoxicant (DUII). His blood-alcohol content (BAC) was listed as .217.
  • Tuesday, June 2
    • A loose horse on Waldo Road prompted a concerned call from a driver at 5:46 a.m.
    • Tools, wiring, a pump and piping were reported stolen from property on Reeves Creek Road.
    • Assault and menacing were said to have occurred in the 29000 block of Redwood Hwy. A report was taken.
    • A woman complained that a man violated a restraining order by yelling profanities and “flipping her off” from the passenger seat of a passing car.
    • Armed with a .BB pistol and firecrackers, a woman in the 36000 block of Redwood Hwy. shooed away her neighbor’s dog from her property, but the neighbor thought she was shooting at his home.
    • After contact in the 29000 block of Redwood Hwy., Gavin Moore, 16, was lodged at the Juvenile Justice Center in Grants Pass after being cited on charges of fourth-degree assault and menacing.
  • Wednesday, June 3
    • A disturbance involving yelling and damage to a vehicle in the 27000 block of Redwood Hwy. was resolved after the subject was given aspirin for a reported headache and toothache.
    • A parent advised that she was unable to reach Lorna Byrne Middle School by telephone at 9:19 a.m. Weather apparently was a factor, and phone service was restored.
    • On E. River Street, a man said to have dementia was complaining of theft of various items, but the complaint was termed unfounded. Arrangements for his care were being made.
    • Spray-painted obscenities and other graffiti were reported at Evergreen Elementary School.
    • Graffiti also was reported on the back door at St. Patrick of the Forest Catholic Church on W. River Street.
    • John Edward Luerding, 40, was cited on a charge of speeding (43 mph in a 30 mph zone) on Redwood Hwy. near Rockydale Road at 5:25 p.m.
    • Kenneth Gregge Sandoval, 40, was cited in Downtown Cave Junction at 7:26 p.m. on a charge of driving while uninsured, and his vehicle was impounded.
    • A Pinewood Way resident complained of telephonic harassment.
  • Thursday, June 4
    • Loss of a cell phone at Oregon Caves National Monument was reported.
    • A residence on W. River Street had been rifled through, and muddy tracks led throughout the house, a caller said.
    • Theft of a cell phone from a student at Illinois Valley High School was logged.
    • Terry A. Glass, 58, was cited on a charge of speeding (62 in a 45 mph zone) on Redwood Hwy. at Laurel Road at 5:26 p.m.
    • A report was filed regarding second-degree theft, second-degree criminal mischief, and first-degree burglary at an Upper Deer Creek Road residence.
    • There was a claim of harassment in a situation between a landlord and tenant on Iron Way.
  • Friday, June 5
    • Nathaniel Isiah Cruz, 28, was cited on a charge of DWS on Lurline Lane off Laurel Road at 1:08 a.m. His vehicle was impounded.
    • Although it was reported that a fight broke out after a man was accidentally struck by a vehicle being backed up on S. Junction Avenue at 2:15 a.m., no one was on scene when a deputy checked.
    • At 2:51 a.m. on Hogue Drive, Jade Charleton Yandell, 19, was cited to appear on charges of failure to appear (FTA) on charges of third-degree theft and second-degree criminal trespassing.
    • An unwelcome individual left a Hogue Drive address on foot, a caller reported at 7:31 a.m. He was warned against trespassing.
    • On McMullen Creek Road, David Wayne Sheldon, 24, was cited on charges of DWS and driving uninsured. Sheldon and passenger Charles Howard Mulch, 24, were lodged in Josephine County Jail in Grants Pass on probation violation detainers. The vehicle was impounded.
    • Attempted entry of a Selma business was reported at 4:05 p.m.
    • In Kerby a woman stated that a neighbor pepper-sprayed her dogs through a fence. She was advised of her options.
    • Theft of a Kubota tractor from the 30000 block of Redwood Hwy. was reported.
    • An intoxicated woman refused to leave a Pinewood Way residence, a caller stated. She left prior to deputy arrival.
    • Clifford Jerone Tucker, 35, was cited on charges of speeding, failure to carry registration and failure to carry proof of insurance.
  • Saturday, June 6
    • A marine deputy spent the better part of the day on Lake Selmac (working).
    • Illinois Valley Fire District, American Medical Response, Josephine County Sheriff’s Office, OSP, ODOT and a city street sweeper responded to a motor vehicle accident in the 200 block of S. Redwood Hwy., reported at 11:13 a.m. The operator of the moped, Raymond R. Karcewski, 71, was reported injured and bleeding, but refused medical assistance. More than two hours after the accident was reported, Karcewski was cited on charges of DWS and driving uninsured and his two-wheeler impounded.
    • From just outside Grants Pass came a call from a woman who, using a baby monitor, overheard a crying child and angry mother in a neighboring residence. She stated that the crying had become more intense throughout the morning. Two deputies arrived later in the day to investigate, and all was fine.
    • Denise Colleen McKinney, 42, was cited on a charge of DWS on Eight Dollar Mountain Road at 6:09 p.m.
    • A caller from Selma said that while swimming with friends, some other people, who were smoking “weed,” began spitting and throwing quarters at them.
  • Sunday, June 7
    • Stolen mining equipment was recovered and returned following a theft investigation.
    • A man contacted in Downtown Cave Junction said that he was hearing voices telling him to take care of a warrant. He was advised that there was no warrant.
    • Theft of a mint green-colored pickup truck from the 27000 block of Redwood Hwy. was reported. The vehicle had a lawnmower in the back and the caller’s wallet inside. It last was seen moving at a high rate of speed on Lakeshore Drive.
    • Broken glass and blood remained from an apparent attempt to break into Siskiyou Market on Caves Hwy. but it appeared that entry was not achieved.
    • A hit-and-run driver struck a vehicle on Holton Creek Road, according to a complaint.
    • William A. Webbe, 37, was lodged in county jail on a charge of probation violation.
    • A green-colored pickup truck reported stolen earlier was recovered at a Thompson Creek Road residence.
    • Stephen E. Evens, 47, was cited on warrants charging DUII and FTA on an original DUII charge.
  • Monday, June 8
    • Damage to an electrical panel and well head at vacant property in the 4000 block of Dick George Road was noted.
    • A “Stop” sign was discovered down on the north end of Draper Valley Road.
    • An unknown person backed into a vehicle parked on a lot in the 200 block of W. Watkins Street, causing an estimated $1,000 to $2,000 damage.
    • Unauthorized use of a green-painted pickup truck removed from a Bumblebee Lane residence was reported.
    • A 13-year-old was said to have been assaulted by two other boys at Lorna Byrne Middle School.
    • A Virginia resident complained of fraudulent purchases on her credit card and that one of the addresses given was that of an Illinois Valley resident. When contacted, a man claimed that his identity had been used for fraudulent insurance purchases.
    • An Iron Way resident grumbled that a neighbor had dumped trash on his property. Later it was reported that the neighbor apologized and picked up the refuse.
    • John David Sexton, 37, was cited on charges of DWS and speeding in the 27000 block of Redwood Hwy. at 9:50 p.m. The vehicle he had been driving was impounded.
  • Tuesday, June 9
    • Samuel James Winter, 18, was cited on a charge of speeding (106 mph in a 55 mph zone) on Redwood Hwy. at Hogue Drive at 12:35 p.m.
    • A Cave Junction mother said that she hadn’t seen her son since he left for school Monday morning. She thought he might have stayed with friends.
  • Wednesday, June 10
    • A firearm was reported missing from a Fernwood Drive residence.
    • Following a vehicle vs. bicycle accident on a parking lot in the 100 block of S. Redwood Hwy. at 3:43 p.m., Stacey Ray Ashinhurst, 39, was cited on charges of DUII, refusal of a breath test and unsafe operation of a bicycle.
    • Numerous items and a vehicle were reported taken from a residence in the 800 block of Thompson Creek Road. A report was pending on first-degree burglary, two counts of second-degree burglary, first-degree aggravated theft, third-degree criminal mischief and unauthorized use of a vehicle.
    • Brad Bell Blachly, 28, was cited on charges of DWS and driving uninsured. The vehicle Blachly was driving was impounded.
  • Thursday, June 11
    • Gavin Wade Hart, 18, was cited on a charge of speeding (67 mph in a 45 mph zone) on Redwood Hwy. at Hanby Lane at 12:20 p.m.
