Illinois Valley boys baseball team members won their first Skyline Conference victory on the last day of the season, 10-6, against North Valley on May 12 in Cave Junction.
The Knights got four runs in the top half of the second, only to have the Cougars score two when Chris Carlton walked, Curtis Paulson RBI single-scored Carlton, and Antonio Escalante singled in Paulson. Escalante scored on a passed ball: 4-2 North Valley.

In the third inning the Cougars scored two more runs when Andrew McLaughlin walked, Paulson reached base on an error, and Ben Kendall RBI single-scored McLaughlin. Paulson tagged up on Tobin Mikels’ fly ball to tie the score 4-4.
In the fourth, I.V. took the lead 7-4, for good, on four hits and a base-on-balls, along with three consecutive hits by Escalante, McLaughlin (RBI) and Kendall (RBI). Paulson walked, and Mikels’ RBI double-rounded out the fourth.
In the fifth, the Cougs sealed the deal: Carlton singled, two walks by McLaughlin and Escalante and then a three-run double by Paulson.
Escalante pitched three innings with three strikeouts. Jack Anderson and Brian Biggs threw two each with one strikeout each.
“I was really happy for the boys to go out winners; they played really well,” stated head coach Ken Fisher.
