Boys & Girls Club offers summer program
From our weekly issue dated May 20, 2009
Summer 2009 is around the corner, and the Illinois Valley Branch of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Rogue Valley is ready.
The staff have been hard at work planning the daily activities, field trips, and guest speakers, tournaments, walking field trips, football camps and much, much more.
This summer’s nine-week program will kick off Monday, June 15 at Evergreen Elementary School, and end Aug. 14. The club doors will open at 8:30 a.m. Mondays through Fridays -- serving a free lunch at 11:30 a.m., and a free snack at 3 p.m. -- with doors closing at 6:30 p.m.
Said Scott Thornhill, branch director, “All of this: 10 hours of programs, food and fun for $50 per child or $75 for a family. That’s nine weeks of summer programming for an average of only $5.50 per week for one child.
“Wow, what a great opportunity for our kids in the valley.”
Thornhill said that Boys & Girls Clubs summer programs again will focus on “our five Core Areas; Character and Leadership, The Arts, Health and Life Skills, Education and Career Development, and Sports, Fitness & Recreation.
“Our Core programs provide our members with a well-rounded, full day of productive activities. We achieve these goals through in-house clubs, programs, guest speakers, field trips and one-on-one mentoring from our professional staff.”
Summer registrations have begun; for more information parents and guardians can phone 592-4771; or 592-6151 after 2 p.m.; or visit www.bgcrv.com and click on Illinois Valley.
