From our weekly issue dated May 06, 2009
The Cougar boys baseball team lost 11-1 to the Pirates in Phoenix on Tuesday, April 28.
The inning that really hurt Illinois Valley was the fourth, as the Pirates scored six times to make the score 9-1. They then scored 2 in the bottom of the fifth to secure the victory when the 10-run rule took effect: Pirates 11, Cougars 1.
The lone Cougar run came in the fourth when Antonio Escalante singled and was hit in by Brandon Foraker’s RBI double. Escalante, who took the loss, and Brian Biggs combined to surrender 10 Pirate hits. Ben Kendall caught for both.
The I.V. double-header at home against Henley on Saturday, May 2 was canceled due to field conditions and will be rescheduled.
