Tai Chi offered through GP YMCA
From our weekly issue dated March 18, 2009
Oregon State University Extension Service and the YMCA are collaborating to present Tai Chi for Better Balance.
This 12-week class has a refundable fee for completion of the class. It is for students 60 years and older and is limited to first-time students.
Classes will start April 1 at the YMCA in Grants Pass. There will be a Wednesday/Saturday session or a Tuesday/Thursday session, both at 1 p.m. Classes are limited to 25 per persons per session, and pre-registration and an orientation are required.
Phone 476-6613 to pre-register. (No YMCA membership required). The co-sponsors added:
“This class improves motion by increasing flexibility and strengthening muscles used in better posture and balance. This can lead to significant reduction in falls for the elderly. It has many health benefits including improved posture, a spinal alignment, improved strength, with increased range of motion and flexibility, while lowering blood pressure.
“Tai Chi significantly improves one’s ability to relax and manage stress. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes.”
Leon Harris and Wes Hamlett are the instructors for the Tai Chi classes. Both have extensive background in internal and external styles of martial arts. They have both taught in the Grants Pass area for a number of years.
