DIRTY DETAILS - Spiral Living Center is offering Soil Testing with Christine Perala-Gardiner on Thursday, March 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Frog Farm in Taklima. Learn how to test soil and utilize the results to improve its productivity. Using the Frog Farm as a laboratory, participants will take samples, analyze the soil for percentages of sand, silt and clay, and look at other types of analysis, including nutrients, microbiology and other tests. FASHION FUN - A fashion show will be held Friday, March 20 at Illinois Valley High School to benefit the Safe-n-Sober Grad Night party. Desserts will be available and there will be door prizes. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. There is a small admission charge.
WELSH WISHES - The sixth annual Welsh dinner is set for Selma Community Center on Saturday, March 21. On the menu: carrot-and-apple soup, Welsh lamb stew, Anglesey eggs, roasted veggies, and Mum’s fruit trifle. Tickets are available at the center office from 1 to 4 p.m. weekdays, or phone 415-1000.
HORSEY HELPS - Acupuncture & First Aid for Horses, On or Off the Trail is the title of a free presentation by Dr. Beth Kraft, a veterinarian. The talk, sponsored by Back Country Horsemen Sourdough Chapter, will be held Saturday, March 21 at 6:30 p.m. at St. Matthias Episcopal Church at the north end of Cave Junction near Z Coffee. YOUNG MOTORISTS - Driver education will be offered this spring at Illinois Valley High School through Rogue Community College. Classroom sessions will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays, April 7 through May 26 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. On-the-road instruction will be scheduled with the instructor. Students must register by April 1. BETTER BANKING - The use of live willow structures to stabilize and restore riverbanks is the topic of a presentation by Dr. John Gardiner during the regular monthly meeting of Illinois Valley Watershed Council. Gardiner will highlight a recently completed project on the Mad River, near McKinleyville, Calif. The talk and slideshow will be held on Thursday, March 26 at 8 p.m. in the Josephine County Bldg. in Cave Junction.

WORKERS WANTED - Glass Rail Outfit Community Center will hold a workday on Saturday, March 28 beginning at 10 a.m. to prepare a site for a therapeutic riding area. NOTEPAD - Evergreen Elementary SMART (Start Making A Reader Today) Program Coordinator Willa Gustafson reports that volunteers have logged more than 1,000 hours reading to students. This year the program has given away more than 1,000 books ... Pregnancy Center of Grants Pass will present The Silver Ring Thing on April 24.
