Numerous Evergreen Elementary School students and their families enjoyed foreign food and festivities on Thursday, March 5 during their first Multicultural Celebration Night.

Each grade studied a different country or culture, and developed activities representing their chosen area.

Kindergarten classes learned to write Chinese symbols, and designed Dragon Parade puppets, while first-graders made Native American rattles. Second-graders made Hawaiian leis, while the third-graders studied Africa and produced beads, masks and Ghana paintings.

Fourth-graders pulled strings on pinatas, and made Flores de papel and moraccas.

Fifth-graders learned about Europe, celebrating Ireland with St. Brigid’s Crosses and learning a 16th century English game of Draughts.

Dancers entertained in the gymnasium while the PTA served “tastes from around the world,” including delicacies from hummus to horchata, and Swedish meatballs to spumoni.

In past years, events at Evergreen Elementary included Math Night and Cinco de Mayo festivities.
