Forestry Action Committee (FAC) held its 17th annual riparian Tree-Planting Day for Illinois Valley on Saturday, Feb. 28. Six teams comprised of more than 100 volunteers, youth and adults, picked up seedlings from the U.S. Forest Service in Cave Junction, then went to their assigned locations. Illinois River Valley Arts Council (IRVAC) volunteers brought a taste of Asia to Lorna Byrne Middle School on Wednesday, Feb. 25 and Thursday, Feb. 26. Students made folded-paper books and lunched on vegetable stir-fry with rice, edamame and tea. IRVAC volunteer Patti Sergi (above) demonstrated how to fold an origami crane.
