Kerby knife attack reported
From our weekly issue dated February 25, 2009
A man wielding what was described as a large knife wounded Selma resident Matthew Paul Spickard early Saturday, said Josephine County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO).
Spickard, 28, reported that at approximately 1:30 a.m. he was attacked in the 24000 block of Hwy. 199 in Kerby. He suffered a stab wound through his right forearm, and a laceration to his head.
Spickard told deputies that he’d been attacked by a lone man “wielding a large knife while he was walking down an easement a few feet off the highway.” He added that “the attacker suddenly appeared out of the darkness, and without apparent motive, started stabbing at him.”
The victim said that he doesn’t know the attacker, but that he was a man, around 6 feet tall with a stocky build, and wearing dark clothing.
American Medical Response took Spickard to Three Rivers Community Hospital in Grants Pass. He was reported in stable condition.
