Cave Junction resident Jacqueline Schicht, 75, died Sunday, Feb. 15, 2009.

A graveside service was conducted at Laurel Cemetery in Cave Junction on Monday, Feb. 23. Pastor Mark McLean, of Fountain of Life Assembly of God Church officiated. Remembrances can be made to Lovejoy Hospice.

Mrs. Schicht was born Nov. 25, 1933 in San Diego to Arthur & Anna Kaiser. She was the eldest daughter of 14 brothers and sisters. On July 16, 1949 she married Michael Schicht. They raised three daughters in the San Diego area; and then lived in Wildomar, Calif. for two years before they moved to Cave Junction in 1976.

They bought property on Little Grayback Road. They built their home and a shop/garage, where Mrs. Schicht was a housewife, landscaper and even helped her husband work on cars. For enjoyment they liked to go out dancing or playing bingo and being “Gramma and Grampa.”

In 1980 she and her daughter, Cindy Schicht, started an office cleaning business, Scrub Bugs Janitorial. Mrs. Schicht also worked at Radio Shack in Cave Junction. After her husband’s death in 1996 she moved into town and enjoyed spending time with family, friends, working in her yard, and playing with her parakeet. She enjoyed flower gardening and had a passion for writing songs, poetry, and listening to Western and polka music.

She especially loved attending her granddaughter Sheena’s basketball games. She had great faith and attended Fountain of Life Assembly of God Church.

Surviving are her daughters, Linda Zuelke and Michele Hurley, of Kingman, Ariz.; and Cynthia Schicht of Cave Junction; her sisters, Doris Ames and Jeanie Frost, of El Cajon, Calif., MaryAnn Tolle of Alpine, Calif., and Aline Ludwig, of Seattle, Wash.; her brothers, Daniel Kaiser, of El Cajon, and Robert Kaiser, of Tacoma, Wash.; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, preceding her in death were sisters Patricia and Marlene; and her brothers, Arthur Jr., Roger, Roy, Richard and her twin Jack.

Augusta Alcorn

Augusta B. Alcorn, 95, of O’Brien, died Friday, Feb. 13, 2009 at an adult foster home in Cave Junction.

A graveside service was held Monday, Feb. 23, 2009 at Laurel Cemetery in Cave Junction with Pastor Walt Freeman officiating. Illinois Valley Funeral Directors were in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Alcorn was born May 6, 1913 to Otto & Helve Christman in Denver, Colo. In 1934 in St. George, Utah, she married George Alcorn Sr. They moved from Arizona to the Rogue Valley in 1938. Later they moved to Selma, and in 1945 moved to O’Brien.

She enjoyed her farm animals and gardening.

Survivors include a daughter, Lou Ella Haywood, of O’Brien; two sons, Gus Alcorn and George Alcorn, both of O’Brien; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Alcorn; and a son, Leon Alcorn in 1936.


Lloyd K. Hipp

Lloyd Kennith Hipp Jr., 29, of Cave Junction, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009 at Three Rivers Community Hospital in Grants Pass.

A memorial service will begin at 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 28 at Illinois Valley Funeral Directors Chapel in Cave Junction.

Mr. Hipp was born April 28, 1979 in Watsonville, Calif. to Lloyd & Carol Hipp. In 1981 he moved from Watsonville to Cave Junction.

His hobbies included hunting, playing guitar, and spending time with his family.

Surviving are his wife, Sara Hipp; two children, Christian Hipp and Cassidy Hipp; his parents, Lloyd & Carol Hipp, all of Cave Junction; and two sisters, Tina Campbell, of Cave Junction and Lisa, of Bend.
