TREE TIME - Forestry Action Committee will conduct its 17th annual Volunteer Tree Planting Day on Saturday, Feb. 28. Participants should gather at 9 a.m. at the lower compound of the U.S. Forest Service Complex in Cave Junction. Volunteers are asked to bring tools if they have them. HONORS HUMOR - Comedian Miles Kehoe (A&E, MTV and Comedy Central) will perform at Taylor’s Country Store in Cave Junction on Saturday, March 7. The event is a fund-raiser for the IVHS Chapter of the National Honor Society. IVCDO MEET - Illinois Valley Community Development Organization will hold its annual membership meeting and board election on Thursday, March 19 at the Business Entrepreneurial Center in Kerby. NOTEPAD - New angling rules for 2009 allow a limited opportunity to harvest wild steelhead on the Illinois River, said Oregon Dept. of Fish & Wildlife. As of Jan. 1, in the mainstream Illinois River from the confluence with Briggs Creek upstream to Pomeroy Dam, non-adipose fin-clipped (wild) steelhead at least 24 inches in length may be kept, one per day, five per year, as part of the daily or annual steelhead/salmon catch limit. Angling is restricted to artificial flies and lures only. The season closes March 31... Getting More from Microsoft Office is the title of a free 21st Century Community Learning Center four-part series at Illinois Valley High School. The class is a hands-on series for parents and guardians of students at IVHS, Lorna Byrne Middle or Evergreen Elementary schools. It also is open to Three Rivers School District employees and IVHS students. Classes will be held Wednesday evenings beginning March 4. Josiah Dean, a Rogue Community College instructor, will teach.
