I.V. girls give ‘110 percent’ to game
From our weekly issue dated February 18, 2009
The Illinois Valley girls basketball team walked the plank Tuesday, Feb. 10.
Cougar guard Tammy Huntamer said, “We really played well in the first half, considering how good Phoenix players Kelsey George (14 points) and Chelsea Passante (13 points, 10 steals) really are.
“Our defense was intense and aggressive,” Huntamer said, “We really slowed them down; the score should have been a lot closer. Our offense was working well, we just missed some shots, and in the second half we couldn’t stop them.
“Believe me everybody on the team gave 110 percent to win this game,” she added.
Through turnovers, a few fast-break points and a lot of great shooting, the Pirates outscored the Cougars 37-13 in the second half.
“If we play like we played in the first half for a whole game, it would put us in a position to win one, maybe our last game,” stated Huntamer.
