Holiday fun with Dell’Arte set Saturday

From our weekly issue dated December 10, 2008

The hilarious Dell’Arte Troupe will present The Glasnost Family Holiday, a free Yule show at Lorna Byrne Middle School in Cave Junction on Saturday, Dec. 13 at 7 p.m.

Although there is no admission fee, attendees are asked to donate a can or two of nonperishable food.

The Glasnosts, happily transplanted to their new U.S. home from a Balkan country, make their living playing music on the street. They are a zany tribe of immigrant misfits, who argue nonstop about everything from what food to serve their holiday guests (the audience), to what songs best fit the season.

They’ve borrowed bits of winter rituals from the Old World, the New World and Out of This World, all to bring cheer to everyone on the cold holiday nights.

Directed by Joan Schirle, Dell’Arte founding artistic director, the program “is a year-end comic treat for the whole family, with music, laughter, a group of wacky characters and good holiday cheer.”
