Man dies 5 days after crash

From our weekly issue dated December 3, 2008

Cave Junction resident David James Christilaw died Saturday, Nov. 22 from injuries he initially thought would not require medical attention that were the result of a single-vehicle traffic crash a week prior, said Oregon State Police.

OSP investigated the crash on Monday, Nov. 17. It was reported at approximately 2:40 p.m. on Caves Hwy. near milepost 5 close to Barnes Way.

Christilaw, 61, was operating a 1990 Mazda B2600 pickup truck eastbound when it drifted off the highway and onto the shoulder. OSP added that the pickup continued into a ditch, striking a culvert and flipping before coming to a stop on its wheels along the southeast shoulder.

Christilaw refused medical treatment at the scene, despite medics from American Medical Response urging him to let them take him to Three Rivers Community Hospital (TRCH) in Grants Pass to be checked.
