As 2008 draws to a close, the Dec. 12 Second Friday Art Walk organizers look forward to “New Beginnings.”
Featured guest Dorothea Hover-Kramer, a Cave Junction resident with doctor of education and registered nurse degrees, will discuss and sign copies of her recently published book, Second Chance at Your Dream. This free presentation, co-sponsored by the I.V. Section/Sierra Club Rogue Group, and Illinois River Valley Arts Council (IRVAC), will begin at 7 p.m. at the Josephine County Bldg. in Downtown Cave Junction.
The author of six books about energy therapies, Hover-Kramer is well known locally for her participation in several organizations, including IRVAC. Under her leadership, it acquired nonprofit status, won several grants and doubled in size.
Her latest book, subtitled Engaging Your Body’s Energy Resources for Optimal Aging, Creativity and Health, explores the opportunities for learning and growth afforded many Americans through recent advances in health care.
“We’ve been given the gift of 30 to 50 more years,” says Hover-Kramer. “It’s imperative we find ways to use them wisely. This extra time gives us new opportunities for creating change within ourselves, and from there, to influence our friends, our communities and our world.”
“This is an invitation to join in the adventure of self-discovery while enjoying more birthdays,” the author explains. “Your vital life force, or Qi (pronounced ‘chee’) is the foundation for the practices of acupuncture, yoga, Tai Chi and Qi Gong. Directing Qi utilizing self-care techniques empowers us to live more fully. Connecting to inner wisdom offers a new orientation filled with joy, peace, openness, curiosity, wonder, appreciation and flexibility.”

Exercises in each chapter lead readers to find new ways to sustain energy levels and “lighten up.” Moving from longevity to “fun-gevity” is made possible by rapidly releasing stressful reactions to free available energy for more satisfying choices. The interventions offer drug-free paths for relieving anxiety, finding inner harmony and thriving in advancing years.
“I envision a new possibility in which engaged, passionate elders bring their collective wisdom to our imperiled world,” said Hover-Kramer. By healing and empowering oneself, we can heal and empower others. The second half of life is indeed the opportunity to reclaim our life’s dream.”
The book is published by Energy Psychology Press, Elite Books, Santa Rosa, Calif.; and is available through bookstores and Amazon.com. View www.SecondChanceDreams.com for further information.
