  • Wednesday, Nov. 19
    • Vandals caused significant damage during the weekend to restroom facilities and camp sites at Lake Selmac.
    • Genuis types also caused some $300 damage to a gate at a construction site on S. Junction Avenue, it was reported.
    • Three men, possibly a trio of street people, were warned about interfering with a public right-of-way on E. Watkins Street at 11:18 a.m.
    • Several motorists were warned about speeding in and around Cave Junction this afternoon.
    • A rural Cave Junction resident said that she found a threatening message on her answering machine. She reported that a woman’s voice said, “I’ll poke you or I’ll pack.” This was determined unfounded as a crime.
    • Christine Leilani Shebesta, 55, was cited into Cave Junction Municipal Court on a charge of failure to obey a traffic control device following a traffic stop on W. Watkins Street at 6:24 p.m.
  • Thursday, Nov. 20
    • A man reported that he left his black backpack containing medical records and prescription medications on a Rogue Valley Transit bus, but it was not found.
    • An anonymous complainant provided a map to a site off Reeves Creek Road where remains of some sort were located. A deputy determined the bones to be those of a dog.
    • At Little Falls Campground on Eight Dollar Mountain Road a man was warned for having two dogs off-leash.
    • On W. Watkins Street, Bob Lynn Hickerson, 45, was cited to appear in CJ Muni Court on a charge of driving with a suspended license (DWS) and his vehicle was impounded. And he was warned for not using a seatbelt, no registration and no insurance.
    • A Cave Junction woman reportedly suffered further injury to a broken wrist when she was assaulted by a family member. A report of fourth-degree assault was pending.
  • Friday, Nov. 21
    • Dwayne Wilson, 42, was cited on a charge of DWS in the 5000 block of Illinois River Road.
    • A deer carcass with the antlers removed was discovered off Illinois River Road around noon.
    • Public schools in Illinois Valley were “locked down” after a report at 1:23 p.m. of a young person with a gun near I.V. High School. Four deputies and Sheriff Gil Gilbertson responded. The report was found unfounded, as nothing and no one of a suspicious nature were located.
    • Two callers stated that a man who appeared intoxicated was stumbling in and out of the roadway on Holland Loop around 7:30 p.m.
    • At 7:37 p.m., a man was hit by a vehicle in the 4900 block of Holland Loop. Perry N. Hilsabeck was transported by American Medical Response. A report, concerning failure to leave name at the scene of an accident with injury, was pending.
  • Saturday, Nov. 22
    • Kimberly Marie Wilson, 35, was lodged in Josephine County Jail on a charge of menacing, following a reported disturbance in the 24000 block of Redwood Hwy. at 2:32 a.m.
    • Thomas A. Page, 52, whose blood-alcohol content was listed as .14, was contacted on Eight Dollar Mountain Road at 3:33 p.m. A charge of driving under the influence of an intoxicant was referred to the county district attorney’s office.
    • A dark blue four-wheel drive pickup truck was seen leaving the scene of a vehicle break-in near Rough & Ready Botanical Wayside at 4:41 p.m. A briefcase was reported stolen from the victim’s car.
    • On W. Watkins Street, Emily A. Lund, 24, was cited to appear in CJ Muni Court on a charge of DWS. Lund also was warned about defective equipment and no proof of insurance.
    • Stopped on S. Redwood Hwy. at E. Watkins Street at 7:28 p.m. because of defective lighting, Aaron Michael Webbe, 34, was cited on a charge of DWS. Asked why he was driving, Webbe indicated that he was seeking cigarettes for his sick mother.
    • Gildardo Guzman Sanchez, 34, was cited on a DWS charge at milepost 30 on Redwood Hwy. at 9:21 p.m.
    • William B. Reilly, 48, was cited on a charge of speeding (42 mph in a 30 mph zone) in the 27000 block of Redwood Hwy. at 9:40 p.m.
    • Jason Troy Halsted, 32, was cited on Caves Hwy. near Old Stage Road on a charge of DWS. He also was warned regarding a defective license plate and the impoundment ordinance.
    • Some sort of disturbance involving yelling was reported on Shadowbrook Drive at 11:36 p.m. What was yelled was not revealed.
  • Sunday, Nov. 23
    • CJ Public Works was notified of a “Stop” sign down on S. Junction Avenue at Caves Hwy. at 12:55 a.m. It could have been hit by a car, but more likely some fool thought it would be clever to knock it down.
    • Raymond Scott Rankin, 46, was cited on charges of DWS and driving uninsured on Redwood Hwy. at Westside Road at 1:08 a.m.
    • Ryan Matthew Schaffer, 22, was cited on a charge of DWS on Caves Hwy. at Old Stage Road at 2:01 a.m. Schaffer also was warned for failure to use headlights when required, and failure to carry proof of insurance. His vehicle was impounded.
    • A Davis Creek Road resident reported chasing unknown persons in a white pickup truck off her property at 6:32 p.m. The caller stated that “they were definitely up to no good.”
    • A 76-year-old woman found without a jacket at the intersection of Redwood Hwy. and Lakeshore Drive apparently had been forcibly removed from the Hogue Drive residence where she’d been visiting, but not paying rent. No crime was committed, and the woman was given a ride to a motel in Grants Pass.
    • Passing through Kerby at 11:01 p.m., Tammy Lynne Beckley, 44, was said to be traveling at 58 mph in a 40 mph zone. She was cited on a charge of speeding. Some 20 minutes later, Beckley was warned about speeding at milepost 8 on Redwood Hwy.
    • Gunshots were heard somewhere off W. River Street, a caller claimed at 11:17 p.m.
  • Monday, Nov. 24
    • In Kerby at 2:53 a.m. a complainant stated that he had interrupted the attempted theft of his pickup truck by three of his son’s “friends.” He stated that the thieves left with his rig, but that he called their cell phone, and they said they would return the vehicle.
    • An eyewitness stated that two people broke into Cascade Auto & Truck Repair in Downtown Cave Junction at 3:18 a.m. A report of second-degree attempted burglary and second-degree criminal mischief was pending.
    • Daniel Berube, (date-of-birth not listed), was cited on a charge of failure to obey a traffic control device (Stop sign), on S. Hussey Avenue at W. Lister Street at 4:35 a.m.
    • A woman on W. Stevenson Street said that three teen-agers were shooting at squirrels with what appeared to be a .BB gun. She was concerned because, she said, they were shooting toward her.
    • Theft of personal documents from a vehicle parked on Millie Street was reported at 9:58 a.m.
    • Theft of a wallet containing a driver’s license, hunting license and cash from a pickup truck in Selma was reported at 2:52 p.m.
    • When two 120-gallon propane tanks fell off a trailer being towed by a semitruck around 4:30 p.m., Illinois Valley Fire District was asked to respond, as the incident was just over the border near the California Dept. of Ag “bug station.” Gasquet volunteer firefighters and CHP also responded. Hwy. 199 was closed for a few minutes while the situation was handled.
    • A S. Kerby Avenue resident reported seeing a man peering though a window. She screamed, and the peeper ran off, she said. It was discovered that the malefactor had placed a chair under the window and removed the screen, apparently attempting entry.
    • At 8:12 p.m. the male operator of a vehicle driven into a ditch in the area of E. River Street and Old Stage Road ran from a deputy. The vehicle was impounded.
    • What were described as five large-caliber gunshots and screaming were reported by a caller on Reeves Creek Road at 8:57 p.m. A deputy noted “nothing out of the ordinary” after a thorough area check.
  • ~In All Fairness~
    • A Kerby woman mentioned anonymously in the Nov. 26 issue under Nov. 6 wants to clarify the item. Although it stated that “a woman refused to let a man remove a camper,” she said last week that actually she’s been trying for two years to get him to remove the camper.Tuesday, Dec. 9
