Robert Andrew Denlis, 42, of O’Brien, died on Friday, Nov. 14, 2008 in Medford.

Robert was born on June 9, 1966 in Red Bluff, Calif. to Michael C. and Kathleen Yvonne (Ness) Denlis. He went to Lorna Byrne Middle School and Illinois Valley High School (Class of 1985).

He had been an automobile mechanic with Oregon Caves Chevron in Cave Junction, and later in Modesto, Calif. Robert enjoyed playing and writing music. He was a bass player with two separate bands. He enjoyed animals and liked to draw.

Surviving are his father, Michael C. Denlis, of Eugene; his mother, Kathleen Y. Lombardo, of O’Brien; a brother, David M. Denlis, of Springfield, Ohio; a sister, Denise Blazevich, of Eugene; and his grandparents, DeLos O. & Darlene Ness, of O’Brien.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Diabetes Foundation or the Kidney Association. Cremation arrangements were by Memory Gardens Memorial Park & Mortuary in Medford.



'Peggy' Nevins

Willesta "Peggy" Nevins, 87, of Cave Junction, died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2008 at her home.

A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 3 at Illinois Valley Funeral Directors Chapel with Pastor Frank Matz officiating. Illinois Valley Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Nevins was born May 26, 1921 in Grants Pass to William & Inza Clark. At age 15, she married Ralph Nevins, and they moved to California where she drove a parts truck. She then lived in Portland, Ore., where she worked as a welder during World War II and later was a city bus driver. She also lived in Winnemucca, Nev., where she was a bus driver and worked for the city of Winnemucca. She moved to Cave Junction 25 years ago.

She attended Illinois Valley Baptist Church,and she loved animals and helping others.

Surviving are a brother, Ronald Clark, of Grants Pass.

Margaret A. Cunningham

No service is planned for Margaret Ann Cunningham, 75, of Cave Junction, who died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008 at a Josephine County care home.

Mrs. Cunningham was born on Nov. 28, 1932 in Quincy, Kan. She moved from Medford to Portland in 1971, and to Cave Junction in 2005. She worked as a hearing aid consultant for the better part of 30 years. After retiring she worked various small jobs, but her main motive was to help people.

Her family said that the job she was the best at was being a mother to not only her four children but to anyone who needed a kind word or a helping hand.

For the last 2-1/2 years she volunteered at the Illinois Valley Senior Thrift Shop and the senior center. She spent many hours taking jewelry from the thrift store and “fixing it” or reassembling pieces to prepare them for resale.

Surviving are her brother, Melvin Thompson, of Oceanside, Calif.; four children, Richard Cunningham, of Portland, Robert Cunningham, of Grants Pass, Edward Cunningham, of Cave Junction, and Tami Johnson, of Bend; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Ellen Thompson; her father, Edwin Lee Thompson; and a son, Dennis Cunningham.

Illinois Valley Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations can be made to Illinois Valley Senior Center or a charity of the donor’s choice.

Mark Edward McCabe

No service is planned for Kerby resident Mark Edward McCabe, 56, who died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008 at home.

Mr. McCabe was born on Oct. 28, 1952 in San Francisco to James W. and Dolores Y. (O’Rourke) McCabe II. In 1970 he graduated from Campolindo High School in Moraga, Calif. He lived in Kahului, Hawaii for 15 years prior to moving to Kerby in October 2008.

Surviving are his two sisters, Janice Loock, of Kerby, and Deborah McCabe, of Glen Ellen, Calif.; and two brothers, Jim McCabe, of Danville, Calif., and Mike McCabe, of Concord, Calif.

Illinois Valley Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.
