SCHC mobile dental unit to bring care to rural I.V.

From our weekly issue dated November 19, 2008

A $5,000 grant from the Dental Foundation of Oregon (DFO) will help bring a mobile dental facility to rural areas served by the Siskiyou Community Health Center (SCHC) Oral Health Community Outreach Program.

“This gives us the opportunity to serve the community in areas where patients have trouble getting to us,” said Aubra Johnson, SCHC director of dental services. “By bringing the dental clinic to rural areas, we hope to reach more people and help them with their dental needs.”

The mobile clinic, staffed with a dentist and assistants, will be available to patients in the community for urgent, preventative and restorative dental care. The Oral Health Community Outreach mobile unit is an extension of SCHC’s Dental Clinic.

“The intent of the mobile dental unit is to take the dental clinic to patients who have trouble accessing care because of travel issues,” Johnson said.

SCHC in Cave Junction likely will be the central location for the WOW. Patients can park on the lot and use the clinic as a waiting area.

The schedule for making appointments will be announced.

Founded in 1982 as the philanthropic arm of the Oregon Dental Association, DFO provides grants to a variety of community programs. Its mission is to improve oral health for Oregon’s children, said to have one of the highest rates of tooth decay in the country.

DFO is a permanent endowment supported through individuals and organizations within and outside the dental community.
