Board says O&C funds to defray proposed tax for law enforcement
From our weekly issue dated October 29, 2008
The Josephine County Board of Commissioners approved a pair of resolutions Thursday morning, Oct. 23, during its weekly legal department update in Grants Pass.
Resolution 2008-41R recognizes that reinstated federal O&C dollars would be directed to pay for law enforcement. It continues that if voters pass the proposed county law enforcement tax districts, the board will not collect the taxes until the 2010-11 fiscal year, and then at only 30 percent of the total rate. The districts would not begin to collect at the 100 percent rate until the 2013-14 fiscal year, after O&C monies run their course.
Commissioner Dwight Ellis moved to approve the resolution, and board Chairman Dave Toler seconded. The motion passed 2-0, with Commissioner Jim Raffenburg voting “Present.”
The second resolution reaffirmed the responsibilities of the county’s Library Board of Trustees. Included are recommendations for expenditures and matters relating to real and personal property purchased with public funds.
The resolution was OK’d 2-1. Raffenburg voted “No.”
