Second Friday Art Walk will celebrate Halloween this month with a variety of free, family friendly activities from 5 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 10.
This month’s Featured Artist, Dave Kendall, crafts beautiful glass pieces using ancient and modern techniques. His locally owned and operated business, Kendall Art Glass, has a national reputation. The public can meet Kendall and view his individually handcrafted work, which will be displayed through October at I.V. Visitor Center.
Art Walk’s Featured Guest, Loren Conner, is known regionally and nationally for his award-winning trike, displayed at Subway Restaurant. The “Art of Invention” is celebrated here with an interesting mix of leather and classic car parts, which Conner has airbrushed to resemble flames.
Taylor’s Country Store will present national award-winning photographer Jim Krois’ Seascapes, Landscapes, Portraits & More. Enjoy Finny’s meat or cheese lasagna, fresh salmon or regular entrees while listening to the I.V. String Band play their trademark 21st century back-porch music.
Farther north at Embroidered Adaptations, Joyce Abrams will show her new line of Forest Edge Farm chic and cozy llama-wool hats in a variety of natural hues for fall and winter. Embroidered Adaptations also carries sportswear, souvenirs and gifts.
Across Redwood Hwy., the I.V. Senior Thrift Shop will offer the Art of Vintage Clothing for Work & Play. This “discount general store” carries all types of items from toys and furniture to hardware and household items.
Next to the DMV office, the I.V. Safe House Alliance will display adorable home décor items called Flannel Cat Creations by Susie Ellwood. These are handmade with antique linens and recycled quilts and make unique gifts.
Also at IVSHA, at 6 p.m. only, Suzanne Vautier will give a free 15-minute presentation on Edible Weeds – wild plants available in a variety of settings including backyards around the valley. She will teach a full workshop later this autumn at the Spiral Living Center (592-3642) in Takilma.
From 5 to 7 p.m., Noralene Harland will demonstrate the fun and fantastic art of Sidewalk Pastel Drawing at the County Building. This popular art form was celebrated this past weekend at the annual Art Along the Rogue Festival in Grants Pass. The roots of street painting began in 16th century Italian religious festivals where folk artists or (Madonnari) would replicate famous paintings of “The Madonna.” More can be found on the Web under “Street Painting Society.”
Between 7 and 9 p.m. at the Josephine County Bldg., there will be a Halloween Costume Dance & Bake Sale.
Nacho Mama’s will explore the Art of Politics by offering voter registration. Free face painting will also be available until 8 p.m. Nacho Mama’s will be serving full menu and bar until 9:30 p.m.
Kimberly Classick’s delightful Heavenly Imagery features wedding photography as well as portraits and landscapes. She will be at Home Valley Bank from 4 to 6 p.m., and her work will be displayed during regular bank hours through October.
Also through October, Dale Brain’s Domino and Treasure Boxes will be displayed at Eye Care Group, Optometric Physicians on Caves Hwy. during regular business hours. These beautiful dovetailed boxes are made of exotic hardwoods, and are worth a visit.
Second Friday Art Walk is sponsored by the Illinois River Valley Arts Council with support from Evergreen Federal Bank, Cabin Chemistry, Jefferson State Financial Group, and R.H. Ziller & Co.
