Commissioners forum to be held Oct. 6

From our weekly issue dated October 01, 2008

Candidates for two seats on the Josephine County Board of Commissioners will participate in a forum Monday, Oct. 6 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Josephine County Bldg. in Downtown Cave Junction.

The forum is organized by First Steps, a grass-roots group of citizens seeking to “understand and improve local democracy.”

The four candidates, Harry Mackin and Sandy Cassenelli, vying for Position 2; and Dwight Ellis and Jack Alan Brown, contending for Position 3, all have committed to attending.

After introductions and brief statements from the candidates, forum planners will invite questions and comments from audience members. Then the candidates will ask questions of one another.

There will be time to mingle and have refreshments afterward, planners said.

“This is an opportunity for residents of Illinois Valley to meet the candidates face-to-face and put questions to them,” said Dale Dalegowski, of First Steps. “Those who attend should get a good sense of who the candidates are, and their positions on important issues in the county,” said Dalegowski.

First Steps, an adjunct of the Community Media & Education Center, took shape with the consensus that “We really just need people making their voices heard more often,” Dalegowski said.
