Oct. 10-11 set for guitar Classics at the Chateau

From our weekly issue dated September 24, 2008

The second in a series of Classics at the Chateau will close out the 2008 event season at the historic Chateau at the Oregon Caves.

A rare and much-anticipated visit by Portland classical guitarist Scott Kritzer is planned for the Chateau on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 10 and 11 at 8 p.m., said Sue Williams of Illinois Valley Community Development Organization.

Kritzer will bring with him several of his advanced students, all professional business men and women in their “other lives.” They will perform a musical program each night ranging from Bach to Scott Joplin, Baroque dances to opera and modern Jazz.

Kritzer is a virtuoso on the guitar, adds Williams. He has performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City, at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., in addition to major locations in London and Sapporo, Japan. He grew up in Ashland, Williams said, and graduated from San Francisco Conservatory of Music.

He maintains an active classical guitar teaching schedule in the Portland area and teaches internationally through his Internet program.

Appearing with Kritzer will be Karla Fisher, an Intel business development executive; Brian Bradner, a UPS manager; Allen Mathews, a professional classical guitarist and instructor; and Rod Cooper. Kritzer and Mathews will have their CDs available during the weekend.

“This is an incredible opportunity for valley residents and visitors to make the short drive up to the Chateau, enjoy fine cuisine in the Chateau’s intimate dining room, and listen to an extraordinary classical guitar concert.,” said Williams.

The concerts are free for guests of the Chateau; and dinner or room reservations are strongly suggested. Special off-season rates are in effect for rooms at the Chateau, and include dinner and breakfast, plus a tour of Oregon Caves National Monument. To make reservations for either dinner or rooms, phone 592-3400 or visit www.ivcdo.projecta.com and click on The Chateau.

The Chateau will close for the season on Wednesday, Oct. 15. This classical guitar concert will be the final event for the 2008 season, “and it promises to be one of the best,” noted Williams.
