Art Show on the Lawn, music and food, a book signing by a local author, and new jewelry designs and woodwork will highlight the fall Evening of Art & Wine in Kerby on Friday, Sept. 26.
The Art Show will open at 4 p.m. Other participants in the special evening will be involved from 5 to 8.
Kerbyville Farm and Yanase Jewelers on the north end of town will join other Kerby merchants in offering a cornucopia of pleasures and buying opportunities for everything from fresh organic produce and local wines to early Christmas gifts.
For the event, Michael & Karen Yanase will feature Oregon Sunstone in their new jewelry and gemstone offerings. Oregon Sunstone is the Oregon State gem, prized for its variety of colors, which sometimes includes schiller, a shimmer caused by copper deposits in the stone.
This is a phenomenon found only in Sunstones from Oregon. Yanase Jewelers will present these gems in handcrafted custom jewelry of sterling silver and 14kt gold.
Next door at Kerbyville Farm, visitors can purchase Dale & Barbara DeVorss’ fresh-picked corn, green beans, tomatoes, pumpkins and winter squash. They’ll also have baked goods and gifts from the farm’s bakery and shop.
And Kerbyville Farm will host Art Show on the Lawn, a presentation of art, fine crafts, and music by members of Southern Oregon Guild. Members are awaiting winter completion of their newly renovated gallery space at the RCC Kerby Belt Bldg.
Among guild members participating in the show are George & Anwyn Leverett, who will play and display their Renaissance instruments; and Cassandra Miller, who will demonstrate her amazing scratch art. Also, Mallory Hicklin exhibiting his imaginative fine woodwork, and Joyce Abrams and Isabel Gaige showing some of their one-of-a-kind hand felted llama wool hats.
Cards, paintings, garden art, and the guild’s hors d’oeuvres buffet will add to the spread on the lawn
Farther south along Redwood Hwy. at It’s a Burl, Sunrise & Family will provide music, while Harvey & Joy Shinerock serve Mediterranean goodies and wine. Visitors can wander in the burl gardens and wonder at the amazing range of burl woodcrafts and the startling architecture of the Shinerocks’ creation.
Across the way at Kauffman Wood, Delbert & Helen Kauffman will pour Bridgeview Vineyards Winery vintages; host the Hanson twins playing “Oldies but Goodies,” and display their beautiful rustic pole furniture and accessories.
A short distance south is Kerbyville Museum. Besides hosting a book signing, it will offer a huge discount on admission for the evening, charging only $1 “just to help keep the lights on,” said Dennis Strayer, board president for the volunteer-run non-profit museum.
Cave Junction author, Doloris Huerta Lloyd, and colleague Sharon McCracken Heston, uncovered a dynamite story of murder, political intrigue and revolution during their 12-year search for family histories. Huerta Lloyd will sign copies of their book, Crossing the Line, which recounts the exciting story they discovered.
Books will be available during the Evening of Art & Wine from 5 to 8 p.m.
And at the south end of Kerby, across from the construction site at the RCC Kerby Belt Bldg., Fred & Gabrielle Hampton at their elegant Hampton’s Rock Shop, will feature new designs of turquoise jewelry. They’ll also show rough natural turquoise and finished beads. Cate Bendock will pour Windridge Vineyard’s Bendock Estate wines for tasting.
