Bob's Corner

From our weekly issue dated September 10, 2008

Our English language can be disconcerting and confusing, not to mention perplexing, to those whose first speech ain’t English as she is spoken. In fact, there are plenty of people running newspapers who screw up every edition with alarming departures in grammar and spelling.

It’s a matter of education. That is what is the matter. As a matter of fact, there are lots of folks out there who aren’t even aware of what is the matter. It’s a matter that must be addressed as a matter of consequence.

To reach the heart of the matter, we have to search for the matter that comprises the matter. Otherwise we might not matter. Some might argue that it is a matter of no matter, but I would disagree, as it matters to me.

For that matter, it could be a matter of opinion. Really though, if one examines language as a matter of record, it could be construed as a matter of course. What’s the matter with this approach? First, one must determine if it really matters. Then, and only then, can we ascertain if this is an issue of matter.

What does it matter? Why does it matter? It’s a matter of consideration. Or maybe it no longer matters.
