The start of the school year will be celebrated in a variety of ways during Second Friday Art Walk on Sept. 12 in and around Downtown Cave Junction.
Popular children’s group Joyful Noise will give a dance performance with flags and tambourines at 6:30 p.m. at the Josephine County Bldg.
Also on tap: Siskiyou Field Institute will preview its coming Arts Weekend and other natural history courses; I.V. Booster Club will offer “Duck Derby Adoptions” to benefit I.V. High School athletic facilities; and the Illinois Valley Section of Boys & Girls Club will display patriotic-themed art.
I.V. Safe House Alliance next to the DMV office on Lister Street behind the Cave Junction Post Office will present hand-spinning demonstrations by Carol Ronan and a display of various fibers for sale as well as gourd art by Iris Loewen. Susan Gustafson will give 15-minute presentations on Bach Flower Remedies for Emotional Healing & Personal Growth at 6 and at 7 p.m. as part of the continuing health self-help series.
Expressions of the beauty of wood will be represented at Treehouse Florist & Gifts featuring Michael Depue’s wood art objects, as well as “A Taste of Our Valley” jelly samplings. Next door, Embroidered Adaptations will host Jim Doyle, who will display his hand-carved walking sticks. Burlwood designs, art glass, leatherwork and contemporary paintings from six valley artists will be featured at Ravenswood Gallery.
Community Media & Education Center will host a mixed-media show of work by Inka Rein Jungwirth, this month’s Featured Artist. Her drawing, Despair, won the Josephine County Artists Association scholarship in 2007.
Illinois Valley native songbird Libby Goines will perform “everything from Folk to Jazz” at Taylor’s Country Store while Leroy Clouser will display his latest show, 2 Feet to 1,000 Feet. It offers astonishing aerial photos of Illinois Valley as well as bucolic vineyard scenes. Menu selections at Taylor’s will include prime rib and mahi-mahi.
The gorgeous photography of Jim Lettis will be featured at Subway Restaurant in a show titled Images of Nature. New to Art Walk will be the first in a three-part series on the Art of Invention with high-mileage and high-performance “Kinetic Vehicles” designed and built by Jack McCornack.
On the east side of Hwy. 199, Debbie Wilson will display her exquisite sculpted jewelry at Nacho Mama’s Cantina while Harry Snowden will serenade with Folk, Rock, Blues and R&B on his guitar. Nacho Mama’s will serve full menu and bar until 10 p.m.
Special Productions next to SOFCU Community Credit Union will host a fun-for-all with Trina Shaw’s clothing for dogs and cats. The I.V. Senior Thrift Shop across from Taylor’s will present Helen Pesterfield’s Art for the Kitchen acrylic creations.
Photographer Ali Madjdi will be at Home Valley Bank from 4 to 6 p.m. to discuss his sensitive portraits and landscapes. This show will be available for viewing during regular business hours throughout September.
I.V. Visitor Center on Caves Hwy. will greet two professional artists. Donna Wright will show her watercolor paintings of seascapes and high mountain trees; and Terry Martens will display his Fireworks Studio “copper red” ceramic pieces.
Also on Caves Hwy., the Eye Care Group will show new beadwork earrings by Angel Oakhurst during regular business hours.
