Full containment of the 1,062-acre Horse Mountain Fire some 15 miles northwest of Illinois Valley was achieved Tuesday, Sept. 2.

Firefighters were focusing their efforts on mop-up 300 feet within the fire perimeter and rehabilitation efforts including installing waterbars, mulching, seeding and repairing roads.

“Because we are continuing to rapidly down-size fire camp near Lake Selmac, additional fire traffic will be on the road the next few days,” said John Kidd, incident commander trainee.

Illinois River Road is open, but there may still be delays due to road construction. Bolan Lake Campground is open.

Road closures in effect to provide for firefighter and public safety:

*Forest Road 4105 is closed from where it joins Illinois River Road to the School Flat area.

*Forest Road 2524 is closed from where it joins Forest Road 25 at the area known as Four Corners.

*Spalding Pond Campground remains closed.

*The Boy Scout Area of Josephine County’s Lake Selmac Park is closed, but will be available for a benefit on Saturday, Sept. 6 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. with live music, food, children’s activities and an auction.

Proceeds will assist the families of Bill Coultas and Caleb Renno, who were in the firefighting helicopter crash in Northern California on Aug. 6.
