DON’T READ THIS - (Parade detour and route): A significant change to the Labor Day Parade route will occur on Monday, Sept. 1. The 37th annual parade, sponsored by Illinois Valley Lions Club, will begin at River Street and move south on Redwood Hwy. as usual, but it will end at Watkins Street alongside Shop Smart Food Warehouse. In previous years, the parade has ended at Caves Hwy. by the Junction Inn. Parade-entry judges will be in front of Home Valley Bank. “There will be lots of fun and candy for the kids,” said I.V. Lions Club. It added, “We’re still accepting entries from individuals and organizations. Contact Harry Johnson at 596-2104.”
Also, because of the parade, Hwy. 199/Redwood Hwy. will be closed between Laurel Road and Hwy. 46/Caves Hwy. from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Sept. 1. As a detour, northbound motorists can take Caves Hwy. to Laurel to reach Redwood Hwy., and southbound drivers can take Laurel to Caves Hwy. to reach Redwood Hwy.

Without you, I just know we’d be having a community feed of barbecued sheep,” said Vanderlinden. She added that everyone who responded is “awesome.”
