A short man wearing a white Halloween ghost mask and brandishing a handgun tried to get an employee to open the door of a Grants Pass business in an attempted robbery.

Near 2:45 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 18, a panic alarm was received from the Purple Parrot on Seventh Street, said Grants Pass Dept. of Public Safety. Officers arrived and secured the scene.

Purple Parrot employee Sarah Hannon reported that shortly after closing, a man as described earlier tried to enter the business, which was locked. He signaled to her to open the doors, at which time she hit a panic alarm.

Besides his mask, the 5-5 suspect with a medium build was wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt, dark trousers, and possibly gloves. The man fled after the alarm sounded.

Later, officers found a hat and a gun several hundred yards from the business. Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to phone GP detectives at 474-6370.
