Colorful fabric creations will be flying high during the Valley Girls first quilt show on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 15 and 16 at Illinois Valley Senior Center on E. River Street in Cave Junction.
It will be the first show of quilts gathered by an informal group of quilters who have dubbed themselves the “Valley Girls.” The goal is to showcase the artists and quilting styles of Illinois Valley quilters.
The show, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, is not a judged or juried show, but there will be a “People’s Choice” award.
There is a small admission fee, and each attendee will receive a small gift custom designed by the quilters. Hamburgers, hot dogs and desserts will be available for purchase.
The Valley Girls Quilt Show aims to promote quilting as well as educate the public on the art of quilting, organizers note. Quilts on display will include antique work, but will emphasize contemporary quilts that have never before been shown. A king-sized quilt created by the quilters will be raffled to help pay show expenses. The quilt-blocks feature images of women wearing hats and with outstretched arms – to welcome all to the show.
Raffle tickets are available at Picket Fence Fabrics, 379 Caves Hwy. in Cave Junction, or they can be purchased by contacting Carol Dickson at 592-8521. Raffle tickets also will be available at the show. The winning ticket will be drawn at 4 p.m. Aug. 16.
