George J. Satmar

George Jiri Satmar, 60, of Selma, died on July 26, 2008 in Ohio while he was on the job with Marten Transport Ltd., a trucking company.

A private service will be held at a later date.

Mr. Satmar was born on June 30, 1948 in Zvolen, Czechoslovakia. He studied veterinary science. He came to the United States in 1976 and was a proud nationalized U.S. citizen. He married his wife, Sharon, on Aug. 30, 1979 in Jackson Hole, Wyo. They lived in Tennessee, Colorado, California, and Washington before coming to Selma in 1999.

Mr. Satmar was employed as a CATV splicer in telecommunications before becoming a driver for Marten. He was a proficient aviator and owned a Cessna 180 named Miss-Tress. His family said that he loved the USA and was dedicated to his wife and step-children. He was known for generously giving a helping hand to many. He had a multitude of friends across the United States and Europe.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon, of Selma; two step-children, Michelle Walker, of Arizona, and Ryan Sorensen, of Seattle; and two grandchildren; and, all of Slovakia, a European nation, his parents, Olga & Titos Satmar; two brothers, Peter Satmar, and Milos Satmar; two nieces; two nephews; and a grandnephew.
