Second Friday Art Walk on Friday, Aug. 8 from 5 to 8 p.m. will kick off festivities for the 27th annual Wild Blackberry Arts & Crafts Festival weekend.

Featured artist for the month is Karen Stiles, whose beautiful watercolor paintings and prints will be displayed at Changes Art Gallery.

Amazon Queen plays hostess to Jill Shidler’s “Fantasy Dreams” costumes and fun clothes for children and adults. Nearby, “Wylea” will offer chair massages for a donation to Illinois Valley Safe House Alliance (IVSHA).

IVSHA, located next to the DMV office on Lister Street, will host Cave City/Cave Junction History in Photos, presented by Greg Walter.

The public can bring copies of their own favorite photos of Cave Junction and view Walter’s Art-Ray tourism photos from the 1940s and ‘50s.

Also at the IVHSA site, Joyce Nelson, a registered nurse, will present miniworkshops at 6:30 and 7:30 on Self-Massage Tips for Stress Reduction, as part of the continuing Art of Health series.

The Illinois Valley Senior Thrift Shop will present a beaded jewelry demonstration by Stacy Yanase from 5 to 7 p.m. only. Finished pieces will be available for sale.

A few doors down, at Home Valley Bank, George and Anwyn Leverett will display handmade instruments for sale and play Celtic harp music from 4 to 6 p.m.

Along “gallery row,” Ravenswood Gallery will offer leather, glass, burlwood and contemporary painting from six valley artists. Special performances are planned.

Next door, Embroidered Adaptations will display “Walk a Mile in My Shoe” decorated shoes donated for a silent auction to benefit IRVAC; and Treehouse Florist & Gifts will welcome Bonnie Campanoli’s original handcrafted teddy bears.

At the Josephine County Bldg., the Illinois Valley Section of Boys & Girls Club also will present a decorated shoe exhibit. Wood artisan Thom LeGay will display tables he’s created featuring redwood tops and madrone burl bases. Petrified and other special woods are set in each piece.

Both these exhibits will be available for viewing throughout the weekend as the Cave Junction Lions Club serves breakfast; Western Star OES Star serves lunch; and bingo will start at noon both days.

Also at the county building, ice cream bars courtesy of Umpqua Dairy Products will be on sale at $1 each or free with a “Crazy 8” coupon from participating Art Walk businesses. Across from the county building, Special Productions will host Gerry Porter and his marvelous mahogany creations.

Novice and serious blackberry aficionados can enjoy new culinary experiences including delicacies by “Roshanna” at Nacho Mama’s; and shakes, cookies, bread and jam at Produce Plus. The Bagel Junction building will be a lively scene as Peace of Mind Wellness Center will host Vinnie Ripp & Statement playing dance funk fusion.

Visitors are encouraged to use the exterior stairs at the rear of the building to discover sculptural metal works by Brad Norris. And blackberry treats will be on hand at Bagel Junction.

Music will play throughout town including the famed Southern Oregon Blues Band at Taylor’s Country Store. The gallery wall at Taylor’s will feature Kevin McFarland’s oil and acrylic pop art canvases. Featured entrée will be prime rib.

On Caves Hwy., the I.V. Visitor Center will feature Kirk Taylor singing and playing folk hits from 5 to 7 p.m. Bob Burt will demonstrate marquetry techniques along with his wooden boxes and screens; and Daryl (“Nice talking to you”) Ponder will exhibit his metal sculpture wall art.

At the Eye Care Group, natural and polished stones, gemstone jewelry and meteorites from The Crystal Kaleidoscope in Selma will be available for viewing during regular business hours. The business is open Tuesdays through Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; closed for lunch from 1 to 2 p.m.

Second Friday Art Walk is sponsored by Illinois River Valley Arts Council (IRVAC) with support from Evergreen Federal Bank, Cabin Chemistry, Jefferson State Financial Group and R.H. Ziller & Co. For more information visit irvac.com or phone 592-4444.
