‘Walk a Mile in My Shoe’ event up and running for Berry Fest

The public can participate in the annual “Walk a Mile in My Shoe” decorated shoe show and silent auction, a fund-raiser for Second Friday Art Walk during Blackberry Festival weekend beginning Aug. 8.
“This is a chance for adults and kids alike to decorate one or two shoes to celebrate summer and the act of creativity itself in a fun way,” said Gabriella Salas-Groth, originator of the idea four years ago.
Shoes can be submitted anytime between Monday, Aug. 4 and 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8 at Embroidered Adaptations, 136 S. Redwood Hwy. Phone 592-3102 for more information. The shoes will be displayed at Embroidered Adaptations during Art Walk, 5 to 8 p.m. on Aug. 8.

The display will move to the Illinois River Valley Arts Council (IRVAC) booth at Jubilee Park for Blackberry Festival. The “Walk a Mile” silent auction will end at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 9, and winners will be notified.
IRVAC continues to sell raffle tickets for a dinner for two and one night’s stay at Seven Feathers Resort & Casino. Raffle tickets will be available at the Josephine County Bldg. during Art Walk, and at the IRVAC booth in Jubilee Park on Saturday. The drawing also will be held on Aug. 9 at 5 p.m. The winner doesn’t need to be present to win.

Also, in recognition of the date, a special “Crazy 8’s” promotion is slated for Second Friday Art Walk. At participating Art Walk businesses, any purchase of $8 or more on 8/8/08 will include a coupon for a free Umpqua ice cream bar redeemable at the county building from 5 to 8 p.m. while supplies last. The bars will also be on sale.
