ENTREPRENEURIAL ENTERPRISE - The public can attend a ground-breaking ceremony for the Illinois Valley Entrepreneurial Center Thursday, July 31 at 10 a.m. at the RCC Kerby Belt Bldg., across from Joe’s Market in Kerby. The project will involve remodeling roughly 1,300 square feet of space in the current building, and adding 1,200 square feet of new space for business events and services.
TUNEFUL PARKIN’ - On Thursday, July 31,
Taylor Rose will play for Concerts in the Park from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in Jubilee Park in Cave Junction. There is no admission charge. Barbecued hot dogs and hamburgers, and soft drinks will be available. Attendees should bring chairs. The audience also can participate in the 50-50 raffle, used by the chamber to pay for the musicians. The mover behind ticket sales is Howard Hill of Antique Alley Custom Rod Shop. The annual concert series is sponsored for the community by Illinois Valley Chamber of Commerce.
BLACKBERRIES & MORE - Illinois Valley once again will celebrate all things blackberry during the second weekend during August. Festivities in Cave Junction will start with Second Friday Art Walk from 5 to 8 p.m. on Aug. 8, and continue with the 27th annual Illinois Valley Wild Blackberry Arts & Crafts Festival on Saturday and Sunday, the 9th and 10th. TALENT ALERT - The 2008 Illinois Valley Lions Club Labor Day Festival (Aug. 30 and 31, and Sept. 1) is approaching rapidly. The talent show again will be part of the festivities, and amateurs of all ages are encouraged to participate. The talent show will be held Aug. 30 for Juniors, Aug. 31 for Intermediates, and Sept. 1 for Adults. Winners will take home cash prizes. The deadline to enter is Aug. 27. FOR FATHERS - A Fathers Program, designed to help dads take active roles in parenting their children and grow into men of God, is under way at Pregnancy Center of Illinois Valley. Meetings are planned on first and third Tuesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., the same schedule as the Bridges to Motherhood program. Baby-sitting is available. NOTEPAD - A therapeutic riding arena to benefit the area is the goal at The Glass Rail Outfit, where a volunteer workday is set for Wednesday, Aug. 6 from 8 a.m. to noon at 27742 Redwood Hwy. Snacks and lunch will be provided. Volunteers should bring gloves and wear work clothes, and bring tools including hammers, post-pounders and shovels.
